SPOILER!!!! I actually saw the film as being somewhat negative about the photo journalists. They could have been anywhere in Asia, Europe or Africa..... to them its was just about the shot - the opportunity and yeah the rush. Take the guy at the end who wanted the Presidents quote. At no time did the momentous occasion dawn on him as the U.S Prez was killed, all he wanted was a quote and was happy at what he got. The soldiers were fighting for their cause (unexplained and thats fine), he was fighting for fame.

I don't know about Blue Eyes, but Soona could be a descendant of Lake within that time of Blue Eyes being gone. (I don't think she was pregnant before the Oasis, so...) Also, I feel like they could be setting Noa up for some revelations at some point in a sequel. His character does resemble a lot of Caesar to me, too, even in attitude. I guess we'll see

This movie had so much potential to address the critical social issues that America faces with the far-right groups, like the Proud Boys, Boogaloo Boys, 3%ers ready for an armed uprising because they don't like who gets elected in our FAIR elections. But it fell so far short of that potential and was nothing more than a movie about a roadtrip from NYC to DC with lots of violence thrown in for good measure. The fact that CA and TX are in an alliance shows just how little the director knows about US history or culture. That is about as likely as MLK forming an alliance with Charlie Manson. I'd give it a 1 star out of 5 stars.

A Critical Review Of The Movie "CIVIL WAR" I went and saw the movie "Civil War" today. It wasn't about a civil war in America based on the current political situation, which is never mentioned or discussed. In fact, there is no politics at all in the movie. The civil war is just backdrop to the story line of the movie. Based on the skylines of the cities, it seems to take place some time in the near future, perhaps in the next ten years. Nineteen states have seceded from the union. The so called "Western Forces" of California and Texas, symbolized by the letters "WF" on their vehicles, are seen often in the movie. Can you imagine any kind of combined force between Gavin Newsome and Greg Abbott? I can't. There is also the "Florida Alliance " but it is mentioned in name only. I have no idea who they are and you are given no clues. The story centers around the adventures of a group of journalist traveling some 900 miles cross country to Washington, DC in hopes of interviewing the President before the war is over. Their job is not to react to what they see but just to take pictures of it and let others judge, or so they say. You are treated to scenes of mass murder by both sides, the execution of prisoners, the brutal treatment of looters, lots of battle damage, and plenty of chaotic battles. Journalist are hated in this day and age for promoting propaganda that supports their agendas rather than reporting the actual news, and I honestly had no empathy, sympathy, or compassion for any of them. The movie completely failed to evoke any kind of emotional response from me. Seriously. I truly believe that America is on the path to civil war and that the only way we are going to solve our current problems is by shedding the blood of those causing the problems because they will never stop otherwise. The side with the moral high ground won't start the war but they will finish it, probably just like they did in the movie. I give the movie two thumbs down.

I could see some sort of civil unrest happening but not to this extent. Where are all the billionaires pulling the strings of government? On their yachts probably. This is probably someone wishful thinking. Somewhat like Apocalypse Now another glorified and embellish war movie.
@JacobStein1960

It's obvious that the president is Donald Trump. I don't know why everyone is in denial about that. The map of how the US is split up, with New York on the Trump side and Texas anti-Trump, doesn't make sense and I think that is supposed to throw you off a little. Secondly, the premise of the movie is ridiculous. It’s equivalent to a group of neutral let’s say Swedish journalists driving through Germany in April 1945 to get an interview with Hitler. I am sure that they would get killed and I am sure the Hitler was too busy at that moment to do interviews with some random journalists who are knocking on the door of his bunker.

I SAW IT. AND "YES", IT IS ALL ABOUT THE DIVISION BEING CAUSED BY TRUMP. IT'S A DYSTOPIAN PICTURE OF THE U.S. IF IT WERE TO BE CORRUPTED BY TRUMP, AND HIS FOLLOWERS VIA CHANGING THE CONSTITUTION AND TRYING TO TAKE THE COUNTRY OVER BY FORCE. A LOT OF INNOCENT PEOPLE WOULD DIE NEEDLESSLY. OF COURSE THE PRESIDENTS NAME IS DIFFERENT, AS TO MAINTAIN CREATIVE INDIVIDUALISM I'M SURE. THE FANATICAL FOLLOWERS IN THE MOVIE ARE JUST LIKE THE ONES WE HAVE HERE TODAY THOUGH. I WATCHED THE WHOLE THING UNBIASED, AND I DON'T SEE ANY OTHER STORY THERE OTHER THAN THE OBVIOUS ONE. YOU'LL SEE WHEN YOU SEE IT.

Great review of a great film! From 5th-8th grade, I wrote and illustrated my original Godzilla ("and Minya") comics and sold copies to my classmates for $1.00 per comic book (good times, I was rolling in milk money, LOL). In my elementary school years, every Saturday morning, I awoke fervently hoping that the 10:30 AM "World Beyond" feature on KPHO, Channel 5 (Phoenix) would be a Godzilla movie -- if so, it made my weekend! In short, I'm a lifelong Godzilla fan -- kaiju-scale (albeit not physically) -- and I think Godzilla Minus One is simply *the best* Godzilla movie ever made. Thanks for giving this deeply moving and cinematically spectacular film the praise it deserves (GMO is the anti-Dune -- it has a plot and characters, and it's actually about something other than the visuals).
@jamesodonnell3636
@jamesodonnell3636 2 месяца назад
Glad you liked it, I guess, but I'm a big fan of the novels, and nothing of Herbert's work remains in this vapid, barely-literate, 3-hour-long, "Dune" themed music video... which also effaces every interesting idea and character from Herbert's universe, inserting modern societal neuroses (men vs. women, deists vs. secularists) in place of deep, philosophical explorations. The success of these movies lets us know that "The Feelies" -- right out of Huxley's "Brave New World" -- have supplanted cinema (and made the novel obsolete). But for me, there's just not enough soma in the world to enjoy this picayune dreck.
@anthonyburn1010
@anthonyburn1010 Месяц назад
You lost me at vapid. Dune on film is just not for you, is it. Stick to the books.
@jamesodonnell3636
@jamesodonnell3636 Месяц назад
 @anthonyburn1010 -- I suppose one man's "vapid" is another man's "scintillating," but I'm hardly the first person to point out how listless, superficial, and interminable the DV "Dune" films are. I honestly went into the film expecting to like it -- a lot -- but there's not a single memorable event or interesting line of dialogue in the entire film, IMO. And the main characters, outside of Javier Bardem, are wooden (Chalamet) and inauthentic (Zendaya). Even Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, and Stellan Skarsgard are wasted in the film. Austin Butler's physical performance is good, but the character of Feyd-Rautha is boring: one-dimensional "evil." Anyway, I don't begrudge other people their good time at the movies, but the ridiculous way that people are heaping praise on this well-crafted-and-glitzy-but-otherwise-pedestrian film makes me worry for the future of Western civilization. That said, if I'd never read the source material, I can picture walking out of this movie thinking it was pretty good -- not "the LOTR/Star Wars of its generation," but pretty good. It's the cynical (and manipulative) deviations from the novel that makes me hold DV's film in contempt, rather than just disliking it. But yes, you're right, I should stick to the books. After feeling burned this time, I'll surely pass on DV's "Dune Messiah."

I was bored out of madame mind. This movie wasn’t even so bad it’s good, it was just bad and boring. You could feel that no one cared about this material, with poor dialogue and bland performances.
