At the risk of chasing them off is it possible to view these little guys eating from the outside? I don't know how tame they are so it might really spook them. You would have to have a remote control camera hidden in a hide, like filming birds at their nests.

Thank you. The Railway is Dragon Miniature Railway. I was there for 18 years. Unfortunately now no longer volunteer heya. This railway has changed so much over the years. The line has 25ft radius curves now. Did have sharper when first started. One climb section was 1 in 30 for 18ft but that changed to be more easy.the leanth of this railway I believe is half a mile give a take meter or two. Ahh. Scamp. The class of loco is Scamp. But this was named scamp and is 12 out of 117 now I think. One in Canada owned by a friend and his grandson. One or two in the EU. Carnt remover the country’s. The idea of these locos came from some one in the minimal gauge community. Some one made a loco years ago for a university project. Small, easy to transport. But still could haul a passenger coach or two or some fright wagons. This loco was at event. And someone in the community said it be great to have something like this but on a commercial level of building. So a friend was talked into this and he came up with a Scamp at first a weld together kit mk1, later mk 2 nut and bolt together. We are now on mk 4 version of the kits. Scamp No12 was the first nut and bolt version. Of mk2. But scamp was originally design to be a freelance loco. But over the years owners have modified them to look like narrow gauge locos as well keeping the freelance idea going as well. I have a soft spot for rail listers. So over time I added bits and peace’s to make scamp No12 more like a Rail Lister. Best parts of the scamp they can go around 6ft radius curves so opens the doors a lot for location running. For example you could have a 7 1/4 inch gauge railway in the garden. Not only that. These are cheap locos to get and take time to build up. So great for someone new to the hobby. But yeah. Power wise. My scamp and some others on public railways have been tired and tested for pay loads. I can haul 1 1/4 tonne. But one scamp has shifted 2 tonnes. But trundle speed. Any more questions do ask away
@michaelthorne9038
@michaelthorne9038 2 года назад
@@GarrattHamster Thanks for the informative reply. Scamp is certainly an interesting loco and a very versatile one! Your track is over double the length of ours at DSME, which is about 420 meters. Some years ago a member proposed laying a 7 1/4 inch track in addition to the 3 1/2 and 5 inch existing tracks but there was so much disagreement about the minimum curve radius and claims that we did not have the space that the whole idea was shelved. You have some very nice passenger coaches. I must go onto Google Earth to see where your Dragon Miniature Railway is.
@GarrattHamster
@GarrattHamster 2 года назад
@@michaelthorne9038 it’s no problem at all. There sure are. Oh I forgot to mention scamps can be battery electric then petrol electric as well. Yeah. Shame your club didn’t settle for the idea. But yeah. Like you know. Bigger you go and as well some locomotive designs. Need the bigger radius. And space can be interesting we’re your set up at. But sometimes it’s better to keep things simple. We have the like of moors valley railway. 7 1/4 inch gauge but wow. There locomotives and train lengths there are something else. And there track is a mile and abit in length. As well I do have some clips of smaller locos at some model engineering clubs.

@GarrattHamster
@GarrattHamster 2 года назад
Instead of narrow gauge. IE 18 inch gauge or 2ft Gauge. Minimal is trying to push the limits. Sir Arthur Haywood is a great example of this. He tired to push for 15 Inch gauge railways for the maximal gauge to push down to for goods and so on. but today there is a good number of people who use there private railway for gardening and so on. even move other goods down to gauges as 7 1/4 inch gauge but there is one or two people out there are using 5 inch gauge. as well there are now growing events up and down the county doing this. as well some miniature railway company now building locomotives like this. even the steam engines i use to fire and drive come under this as well my own Scamp locomotive.

Looks like some have levers and some are are operated electronically. Had a look at their website and found the following which may be of interest: Signal Box - Holborn Crossing the first year of operation of the railway, a signal box was built at Lakeside to control the signals and points in the vicinity of the station. Track circuits are installed throughout the layout and the signal frame is fully interlocked. The track arrangement has been changed several times during the railway's life and the box now controls 15 signals and 8 sets of points. Signal Frame The signal frame is one of the few Westinghouse Type L still in operation and the 35 lever frame was originally part of the Gloucester Road (Croydon) box instalation. The levers are fully interlocked with the point detection and track circuits. Unlike the original installation the interlock logic is not performed by interconnecting the lever switches (D-bands) and external relays, but a custom built micro-computer is used and the logic performed by a program stored on an EPROM. The lever positions, point detection and track circuits are used as inputs, and outputs from the computer drive the interlock solenoids, point motor relays, signals and the track diagram. With the exception of the signals, which use a low voltage AC supply, all systems run from a constantly charged 12v car battery. Although not really in keeping with railway tradition, doing it this way means that the system can be easily updated to meet changing track layouts. The design also has two totally automatic modes of operation built-in which enables the railway to function in the absence of a signalman. Signals The majority of signals are built using comercial vehicle marker lamp housings running from a 12v AC supply. The approach signal to the station complex is fitted with 12v 20w dichroic bulbs giving visibility of over 100 meters, even on sunny days. The signal at New Barn Halt (400m from the box) is supplied with 110v from a standard industrial safety transformer. All are operated by solid state switches in the box. Points The points are operated by car windscreen motors modified to give 2 stop positions. They are contolled by relays driven by the box computer. The car battery is used to absorb the high motor currents. The point position is detected by microswitches directly operated by the blade tie bar.

Roger Marsh original Tinkerbell design certainly has grown up over the years ! Must have been in the late '70-ies that I picked up my set of drawings and castings at Roger's Britannia Works in Hinckley. Oh yeah, The design of the Tinkebell has been modified over the years. Did you, I would of loved to have been around the workshop but at last. i was not born then. but lucky enough there is some photos of the workshop. now thats something to remember. yeah, I have to go to Moors Valley Railway as well. not only to see there Tinkerbells and modified ones but as well to see there garratt locomotive as well. I have been one of two main driver's for the railway i volunteer on to fire and drive two tinkerbells there. one of them i can say must of been one of the best maine boiler versions out there. very free steaming and no messing around. but at last that came to end when it came up for a new boiler and some othere jobs need doing to it. now its a royal pain. not free steaming. blower has to be on at all times and open half way. and other things been done to it witch to me makes no seance. so looking after that loco as my own and always took massive pride in that loco. and been on it for 15 years. but this and some other things i am more less calling it day in the hobby.
