Hi. I catch big fat bass in my $200 jon boat, $50 kayak, and straight from the bank using the techniques discussed on The Minimalist Fisherman website. If it ain't workin', we're not talkin' about it - and the proof is in the pudding! Most techniques are inexpensive, easy-to-emulate and most importantly - effective.
@@martywilladsen4559 yeah likewise - my lakes are SLOOOOW but I got into a river the other day and it was refreshing how active the smallmouth were. I need to do that again ASAP!
"Base Box" - I'll do some videos on these, but here is an article on what a Base Box is - they are really helpful for keeping lean tackle and being able to fish any kind of water at the drop of a hat: theminimalistfisherman.com/best-baits-for-big-wisconsin-bass-minocqua-fishing-tips-tackle/
Stick with it! Once you figure out where the bass are at, you'll be able to target them more effectively. Maybe there are a few hanging out just a bit deeper than where your bluegill were at? Good luck.
Great video mate!! Nice creek and nice fish! I love watching your videos and actually make fishing videos myself!! Keep up the good work my friend!! 🤜🤛🔥
The video is great quality, and your website is put together beautifully, I'm truly at a loss for why your channel isn't much bigger... My only guess would be the intro, maybe the thumbnail... If you had put the clip of the kids first, this probably goes viral because that was so cute and wholesome!!! Sending positive vibes and tight lines your way brother! Hope to see you on/around the water in Florida one day!
Yeah buddy. Nice hooksets. Really enjoyed you video and content. Nice fish. Always fun showing and teaching young kids about fish. I just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work bud. Tight lines.
Hey thanks man! Those kids were crackin' me up - they were hilarious! Hopefully they remember that and give fishing a try when they get a bit bigger. Tight lines!
I hear ya - fortunately they did not but... the year before a few people let me know they were not too happy to see me. Ah well, this is how we learn I suppose 😂 thanks for watchin'!
Yeah that's kinda what was going through my head too... although to be honest, they were old and crusty so I didn't think I was trespassing at the start of the trip... gray area, gray area... lol
Great to hear from you, Brother Marty. I appreciate you laughing right along with me, but I'm a grown man with kids now man - I can't be sneaking into places anymore!! LOL 😂😂😂
*says loudly* "MATT DAMON!" 😂 Haha, that's the first I've ever heard that one man! Thanks for the kind words. Really appreciate it. Have a great weekend.
@@TMF-InTheField Not in a team America way! 🤣 No one has ever told you that? Guess it's just me. Loving the videos. Keep making them. Refreshing to see independent creators not just making videos to promote sponsors.
Yes this was from late May - if you take a peek in the video description I always include the time of year whenever I post. Hope that helps - thanks and have a great week!
Hey thanks Brother Marty - much appreciated! He had a blast. How have things been going for you lately? Getting bites even in the heat of summer I hope? Talk soon my friend!
Dude reach out to me … I am also in Illinois … and I am the illustrator for Bassmaster and B.A.S.S. Times … I also am in search to get out of IL and go south … let me draw and illustrate you get a bit of promotion out for ya…
A.J., keep up,the good work Brother. Your videos prove that you don’t have to land 5+ pounders to make a quality and entertaining video. Take that as a compliment; it’s meant to be one.
Thank you, Brother Marty - I really do appreciate that, and no offense taken. Unfortunately not all trips end with bruisers, especially when I'm out exploring and learning - but that just makes the big girls all the more special! Thanks for watching and commenting my friend - have a great weekend!
Great fish man ! Way to break a new area down. Loved the field notes. Those lakes look like a kayakers paradise. Bummer about losing that biggin but you made up for it with some beauties. I've never used o rings with wacky style. Gotta try that 👊
Thanks my dude! It was a fun trip from earlier this year - really a cool spot. I'd say give the o-rings a shot but only of you are messing around with smaller hooks and you need the maximum amount of "bite" or "gap." I don't prefer how with a single o-ring the hook sits parallel with the stickbait... perpendicular seems to lead to better hooksets, so I'm experimenting with shrink tubing and double o-rings currently... gotta love the hunt for "a better technique!" Have a great weekend.
Hi random fishing I just found your channel I hope the sub helps your channel out I am returning the kindness that everyone has shown my channel love to you and yours frome paul in p.a
Man o man that place looked juicy! I'd wanna throw a frog so bad. But the yum dinger on top is a great idea too. Nice sunfish and I was laughing so hard when you gave that hookset and the bass flew and hit your yak. Too funny. This place reminds me a ton of an area in mattheson state park near starved rock. Haven't been there in a few years but it always got scummy and choked out with weeds like that. Great outing 👊
IT WAS AWFUL! Lol... and you nailed the spot. You must be closer than I thought. You every pull anything of any size out of there??? I've thrown a frog in there before... I hear ya... I did catch one on it on a past trip, but it was similar - 3 hours with minimal action. I DID happen to find another super-awesome place where I can fish from the yak that I taped about a week later. Much better results. Very success. Will do again 😊👍
@@TMF-InTheField nice ! I'm about an hour or so away from there. I've never caught anything from there. But I've only fished it a couple times. Every time I go its just like your video. Pretty much only can throw a frog from the bank. I really like hiking that area though.
@@reelfeelfishing 10-4. So full disclosure, the other fish I caught in there was almost the exact same size. I also found a Googan frog in there last time hanging from one of the brush piles... it wasn't... it wasn't YOURS, was it? If it was that would be hilarious and I will give it back. Not joking.
HA! I hear ya... but... I mean there were FISH there just waiting to be caught! (The snake was probably fishing too...) So whereabouts do you fish tournaments, Mr. Travis? Happy Friday brother. -AJ
@@TMF-InTheField Upstate South Carolina. We cover pretty much any motor restricted lakes and I do the larger lakes with QCKBF's South Division. You are right, I just have an reasonable "respect" for them 😂 No matter how many I see, I move away when I see even a brown snake.
@@TravisDoesKayakFishing 10-4, and I hear ya broski. I came back in the other day from a yak trip, and right as I was rolling up to the gravel on the shoreline, I scared the crap out of a big one and he shot off the bank into the water right towards me - so he returned the favor. I was not expecting the bank to MOVE when I got close to it... never a dull moment, eh?!
@@TravisDoesKayakFishing ABSOLUTELY!! I fished a pond the other day and looked down and there was like a 200 pound snapping turtle swimming beneath me. I threw a stick in the water to get him to leave. Didn't. Even. Budge. You got any a them buggers?? Watch your ankles... and toes... 😊👍
Dude you have some beautiful creeks where you are at. Great catches! Creek smallies are so much fun. Love the fight they put up. I have never seen that pop n drop rig before. Such a good idea. I gotta try that. I've seen something similar to that fluke one but never tried it. Solid creekin session! 👊🙌
Hey thanks man, I'm really trying to find some new remote areas this year - that is the goal. As I'm sure you know it can be tough in this state... are you fishing Central or Southern IL by chance? I know a lot of guys fish in the south, with bigger bass because of (I assume) the warmer temps for longer periods... IL is such a long state and here I am all the way up top 😂😂😂
@@reelfeelfishing if you ever want to tag-team some stuff I might have a few good spots that get less pressure - shoot me an email aj@theminimalistfisherman.com if you want to chat and see if a collab is feasible. Would love to get you to contribute to the site as well if you're interested. No pressure, my fellow flatlander.
Hey Brother Marty - thanks, much appreciated! I want to try to keep these videos moving quickly but we can always learn. I learned a few things from your emails recently, so thank you as well. Have a great weekend!
Hey thanks Brother Marty! The 'ol Pop 'n Drop has caught me fish in water up to 10 feet deep - I've called fish up from the weeds in Wisconsin lakes, and on this trip I was able to keep my plastic slightly above the creek bed which helped me avoid all of the new debris that had washed in with the rain. The popper also worked well in the dirty water and was able to attract a few fish tight to cover. Check this out for a bit more info and have a great weekend! theminimalistfisherman.com/the-pop-n-drop-rig-topwater-finesse-fishing/
Thanks Brother Mark! It's something I invented not that long ago. Still fine tuning it, but here is some additional info: theminimalistfisherman.com/the-pop-n-drop-rig-topwater-finesse-fishing/
Thanks brother! I'll be honest I'm still a work in progress. One of the nice things about editing these videos is that I can REMOVE all of the times I lost my cool... but as I go through them, it's also painfully obvious that I need to do better. So that is a really good thing that comes out of these vids, for sure :)
