I'm no pro. I'm not semi-pro. I'm a stoked watersports lover.
I like long walks on the beach. I like to wingsurf. ------ I really like to wingsurf waves at Nahant. I'm getting into downwinding. I used to be a kiter. I'm not supposed to post videos of sessions in Rhode Island. I love telling stories.
A while back, I challenged myself to make a new video every week and post on Fridays. Wow. A couple years later, I'm still doing it. It's a constant lesson of creating something on a deadline, being OK with imperfections, and moving on. It's kinda hard. It's fun. I've learned so much. Met so many awesome people. Had some epic experiences. I'm stoked. I'm just riding the wave.
I'm super passionate about winging and wingsurfing. I'm just trying to spread the stoke as I move forward. Let us inspire each other along the way and have some awesome days.
The ocean binds us together. And we are bound to it. We are forever heading back to it. WE ARE OCEANBOUND.
Hey, Jeremy! Huuuge fan of yours here!! I'm about to get a new HA v2.. and I don't know what will suit me best: 780 or 880. Currently weighing 68-70 kg, and would use this foil to prone and winging! Already have a MA800, HA925 and CF1200 and 950. Pls tell me which one you think will be better to buy! Thankssss
@@befernandes2996 hi!! Sup bud?! So I’m 77kg, so enough to ride a whole size off from you. But I love the 880/680 combo. That 680 is so easy lift-wise for its size. And the 880 is my light wind weapon, but you can still crank turns on it. I I could only have one, 780 all the way. The 780 would replace your 925, so if you use that one a lot, the 780 will be a pretty awesome addition. The 580 is a little different than them all. I feel like the 680 has way more lift and is more user friendly compared to the characteristics of the 580. So I think you’ll be totally happy with the 780. Depending on your normal winds, the 680 would be worth considering too! LMK what you end your doing! I wish you an awesome day.
@@OCEANBOUND1 thank you, Jeremy! really apreciate your help! I like to use the MA800 for winging when its critical or riding waves, but I would like to test the new HAs as well. Would use it a lot more to prone.. and my biggest doubt is if the 880 has considerable more amount of pump? or if the 780 can crank better turns? My 680 would be the MA800, now I have to find a foil for prone and winging with less wind... and it is either the 880 or 780! What you think that beign said? tks very much again man!! Your videos help us so much
The glide on that 680 is sweeeet! Love the part when you dropped the wing and took a few seconds to recover - gliding down the wave face the whole time! Nice to hear that wetsuits are being recycled. One of the local companies here is currently collecting old suits to donate to the locals in Chicama so they can catch those awesome lefts too.
Nice wettys 😊 looked like an amazing sesh. we have had the worst autum so far, no wind or way too many storm conditions. This video sure helped keep my stoke level high. Thanks for sharing, and have a great week, stay stoked bro😊
Nice! Glad to hear you have a new wetsuit sponsor, your old suits were looking pretty shredded! Do you have any OCEANBOUND Merch? I need a new favorite hat. Hope you have a nice weekend. BTW, We are just getting power back after the Hurricane here in FL. Unfortunately my closest wing spot, Cedar Key, got hit really hard. Probably going to be doing several weekends of cleanup before I can get in the water again. Always enjoy watching you shred and so glad to see you getting to try out so much new gear!
yeah super stoked about the wetsuits! yamamoto makes me feel so sexy! and yeah, merch coming. I've been super busy but have designs, I just need to get it going. and glad you are doing ok post-hurricane! sounded intense with that 20 foot storm surge. I hope the cleanup isn't super bad, and I hope yr back on the water soon! I wish you all a safe weekend!!
Yeah totally! Nothing makes me happier than the fall swell. So stoked. Why does it have to be the busiest time of year at work?!? lol. Thanks bud, I wish you an awesome weekend!
Great content as usual, thanks for that! I do have a question about your mid length though; did you try any other sizes before pulling the trigger on the 75? I had a chance to demo the 75 and 65 in flat conditions and am leaning toward the 65 based on my weight of 65 liters. However, I’m seeing a lot of riders on the 55 who weigh more than I do. So now I’m teetering between a 65 and 55. I don’t prone but would like to start learning. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!
Sup bud! I did not try it, and have not tried any other sizes. I needed to replace my 75L FG and I wasn’t interested in going less volume, I needed something that worked for everything, especially in light winds. I’m 77kg so the 75L is nice, it just barely sinks. Any less I know I’d have to work harder in some situations. I think the 65L for you would be the equivalent of my 75L. Going smaller is def personal preference. I don’t need to do that crossover into prone. But I hear the more volume the easier it is to start. At least paddling the 75 would be easy due to its narrow width. I could totally be missing out not being on a 55L but I have friends with boards that small and there’s a lot of time I’m foiling and they are just waiting for a gust. Not sure how much that helped. But lmk what you end up getting! I wish you an awesome weekend!!
Thanks bud! I totally agree, this one is a little too hot. I’m cranking a video out every week, and sometimes things like this slip down through the cracks. I do appreciate the feedback. I wish you an awesome day!!
NIIIICE.... let me understand the advantage of that leash.. the regular Cabrinha leash seems better to me...Had some sessions on my new downwind board on flat water (brazilian board and foil as well) ... uh hhh a long way to go.. Have a good week end
So the leash is an INVIZ leash for DW. The appeal is once you start pumping, the leash isn’t making a loud smacking noise on your board. I can confirm that it’s now my favorite board leash. Def recommend if your into some of the stuff I do. Kaohi sent me 2, and asked me to try it on the wing too. So last few sessions I’ve been doing that as well. It’s got many uses! Worth having more than one. Thanks bud. I wish you an awesome rest of your weekend!
That looked great. Often the camera fails to show accurately what you're riding. The offshore winds blowing off the tops really highlighted the dimension and shape of the waves. I sabotaged my last session too. Everything was perfectly balanced. Then I decided to try being overwinged and underfoiled to try for some speed. Not as much fun as perfection. I just can't help fiddling with gear. It's a problem.
Thanks bud! Those conditions are kinda unique and I love riding waves like that. Great for kiting too - those exact waves broke my foot and that broken foot kinda got me into winging. So much fun to do them now on a wing. Sucks about your last sesh! I sabotage myself all the time. I have a rule, never change more than 2 things from sesh to sesh. And every time I break that I usually end up cursing myself. It’s so nice to have yr gear dialed though. Rode a small foil on big waves yesterday, been months since I rode it but put it on “normal” settings and the no s worked out great. Hope you get out this weekend! I wish you an awesome day!!
Stoked for you!! We are getting a system this weekend, looking like 3 days of wind and waves 🌊🕺so stoked. It’s been flat too long. Bring on the hurricane season, fashionably late. I hope you get some soon bud. I wish you an awesome weekend!
Sup bud! Thanks 🙏 yeah I pretty much have been riding at 11 or 12 for the last month, but it was 8-10 for such a long time. I always ride red and blue shims. And especially with the dart stab, it feels right to ride at 11-12. The PPC lives!! It’s on its way back to me today. Stoked to have it back. I really like that wing. Thanks for the comment bud, I wish you an awesome weekend!!
It’s funny you say this. I’ve been going 8-10 all year, but in the last month or so I’ve been going 10-12. Red and blue shim, and I tend to use the 140 or 205. I’m not really sure what changed, but I was nosing down more with my foot in the normal strap position and moving it to 11 and 12 seems to make it better.
@@OCEANBOUND1 also using the 140 and 205 (for some reason I still like the 205 a lot with the 880 even it feels a little slow). I also moved the frontstrap all the way to the front position which feels much better in the 10-12 area
Hah! Same here. The 880 feels really nice and solid with that 205. We have some bigger waves this weekend, I’m planning on using the 680/205 combo after months of not trying so I’m looking forward to trying that b
I invested in a few new AXIS skinny stabs about six months ago and I literally stabbed three wings in that month. A 6.5 DLAB (leading edge/bladder repaired), an 8m Ventis (canopy taped) and 4.5m DLAB (sitting in it's bag waiting). A very depressing month ..... but I now watch those stabs like a hawk.
awww man I've totally been there!! totally sucks. I'm going into this weekend of big waves with just one 5m so I'm a little nervous. thankful the local shot has some great deals right now... bringing be credit card and I may be stopping in wearing a wet wetsuit :P I hope your luck is better this month bud. I wish you an awesome month!!
They are a good company. I have a hokiepa cloud wing that I have popped 3 times blowing up! Worst feeling ever when you are all set and you blow your wing. At least you got a great session in! I still have the wing, but went out and replaced the thing with a swing. Not regretting that decision at all.
oh man what a bummer! yeah that's gotta be frustrating. my friend has had that happen with two separate dyneema wings from another company. I'm def eyeing a Swing v4! I wish they came with full booms. thanks bud, I wish you an awesome day!!
@@alchemybuild awesome question! So far it’s between this and the v4 Swing. I prefer the handles of the PPC wing to what FOne is doing, mostly because the longer front handle. But the PPC has more weight to it. I think swing with hard handles is my answer!
Great work JMan…. That repair sounds expensive but also those funky materials don’t make purchasing one very appetising. Especially when my chosen arena is waves & gnar!!!!! When I’ve been skunked like that I’ve deflated the wing on the outside, placed it under me then paddled in, rolling the board over when getting shallow… you’ve only got the foil to worry about then 🤷🏽♂️. Stay frosty autumns coming!!! 🤘🏽🏄🏽♀️🌊
Haha I did the same, it came back to me repaired like it never happened, but I will listen to my own advice and finish my session on a high Love you Mahi, Kia ora from Aotearoa, land of the foiling Americas cup
yeayyyy that's great to hear. I got word yesterday it's been repaired and should be heading back to me today. stoked to see their work, Airtime is awesome. and I love the M1 so it's gonna be sweet to have it back. thanks for the comment, and hello to you and your crew in NZ!! I wish you an awesome day!
Waves looked killer so guaranteed I would have done the same though. Never say next wave in when surfing or winging. It never works for some reason. Waves go flat or wind dies. 😐 Airtime will fix it and make it better than before, for sure.
thanks Roy!!! the M1 has been repaired and is currently heading back home! stoked to see how they repaired it. been on the dw leashes, both wing and board. I love them! lets catch up soon. I wish you an awesome day bud!
thanks bud! I got word the repair is done and it's heading back to me soon. I'm stoked to see how they did it. got big waves today, only one 5m. thank god the local shop has some great wing deals right now... I may be forced to make a purchase :P
I'm an early intermediate 75 kg just beginning to successfully complete jibes and foot switches, and looking at midlength boards to graduate from my 110L 29" wide board. I'm looking at 80-90L boards because my local Great Lake can have iffy winds and I always want to be able to schlog back. The only aspect I am nervous about is launching these narrow boards in the occasional heavy chop we get on strong wind days. The various brands of midlengths vary from 19-22 wide. Within this range do you think they are at all different in terms of ease of stabilizing yourself and the board to stand up, or would they all pretty much be the same? Or do the other design features come into play (as you noted for the wide fat tail of this board)?
sup bud! IMO all those factors add up. I have a 75L and it's def tippy when not moving. I fall off a good deal when getting on lately, but getting more of a hang of it every day. the 90L F-One was surprising how much smaller it felt but just floated better than my 75L Armstrong. the width is a huge factor in the tippyness, but I really think the flat tail of the FOne design helps the stability. I felt more stable. as soon as you get some forward motion, it gets a lot more stable. so if you go with the 90, I think that's your best bet for stability. you could make the 78L work too. it will sink more but not totally, sometimes that helps keep things stable. that's a big jump for you, but possible. not sure if I helped or not, LMK what you end up doing! I wish you an awesome day!
Hi Jeremy (from France)! Thanks for your videos and your tenacious good mood :) This one makes me forget my same misadventure 2 weeks ago. It was nice to see your family too.
awww thanks s much bud! so happy you enjoyed it. despite wings breaking, my whole fam was stoked at the end of this day. I hope your misadventure wasn't so bad. it's great to surf waves, and great to be alive. I wish you an awesome weekend!!
Fantastic delivery of the story 😊, sorry wing was damaged, but it won't be long, and it will be back good as new, it's a tricky repair on the materials used in that wing but I look forward to seeing how they do it. I always keep older wings now for bigger wave days .It's Part of the game, and as you say, it's worth it. You were hacking waves fully stoked , bud, You have inspired me yet again, so I should get back and do some filming, but lately, i can't find any time as I've been hacking waves and pushing myself the last few weeks . Take care my wing brother, on the other side of the pond . Kids are getting big
yeeeehaww! knowing you've bene hacking waves puts a smile on my face! we have mostly non-windy days in the near future... really hoping this hurricane season kicks in soon and livens my life up a little. I'd love to watch a Tomo shred sesh to get me stoked. gotta keep the perpetual stoke loop goin'! lol. and yeah... kids keep growing! they are finally getting into boogie boarding and skateboarding. stoked dad alert. wishing you and your crew an awesome weekend!!
When skiing we always kept to the saying "Never ride the last run, that's when you get hurt". We did our second to last run and then went home. I'm glad it was only the wing that got hurt but still... superstition strikes again!
oh man that's totally been the case for me before on the mountain. last run of the day. wobbly legs. slower reactions. stupid mistakes. yeah I'm stoked I didn't get hurt. I should have just let the wing go and met it on shore. hindsight is 20/20. thanks bud, I wish you an awesome weekend!!
Sucks man… I had a kite blow off the back of a boat on Sunday and we never found it. That same session my buddies foil fell off his board and sank. We are idiots, but we were sad, haha
hahaha dude totally my luck right there! sucks to hear about your day. but as a very wise friend likes to say... there will be better days!! I wish you an awesome weekend!!
@@OCEANBOUND1 My buddy john said 1) it's only money, you and your family are healthy and you will kite again. 2) If you're not destroying or using your gear, you're probably not using it enough :) Keep the content coming (its so fun to watch), I'm starting to learn to wing so I'll start adding some wing content to my channel too!
what matters in life is the session... the just one more is really too bad.. so often I had to paddle, lately I broke my laeash and was swimming after my board.. first 2 m behind.. than 5 .. body drag no result.. than 10... after 15 min a sailingvessel brought me back my board .. if not I would have to swim for about two hours.... Now i am thinking of adding a line to be save... did you try that ? All the best
oh man that sounds a lot like my luck! lucky you got some assistance, sounds like it all worked out. I have not thought of adding an extra line. I've broken a few leashes but it never ended up being that bad. so I haven't really thought of adding redundancy. only on my cameras. thanks bud, I wish you an awesome weekend!
I had a blowout in my ppc 6m that looked almost exactly like yours. I was up on foil and it just exploded. Isn’t dyneema super strong? Well it’s in our nature as thrill seekers, we just want more! Thanks for the awesome vids.
So weird that happened to you too! I really love the way the wing behaves. I thought this would be my bombproof wave wing but this was my first real wave sesh 😭 Thanks bud 🙏 I wish you an awesome weekend!
What was that line you once said? "If you want to get stoked you're going to trash some gear". .. or something like that. What's the deal with your DW board? Did the novelty wear off in a few months? Light winds and big waves would have been perfect. Looked like an epic session. The cost of a round of golf would be more than the cost to repair your wing. Have a great weekend!
Haha yeah I haven’t changed my tune! 😂 I put a massive hole in my dw board a month ago. I guess it’s not closed cell so took on and retained so much water it’s taken weeks to get liters of water out. It was on vacuum for 2-3 weeks and still not dry. I can’t wait to get it back. I just got a new paddle and I’m itching to try it. I’m hoping one more week or so. And yeah great perspective on the golf costs. To quote my wise friend Brad: it’s only money, man. I wish you a great weekend bud!!
@@OCEANBOUND1 Could you attach a suction pump to the hole and suck the water out? The same method they use to laminate carbon boards. You would drill a small hole at the other end of the board and leave the pump running for a day or two.. The quest to make boards as light and low cost as as possible comes with the downside of being very fragile. Seen this trend in the board building industry since wing foiling began.
@@aquaman1 yeah it was on a vacuum at my board repair guy's place for weeks. the hole was close to a foot across. he just started fixing it as it got to a point where enough water was out and it was dry enough. fingers crossed I'll get the thing back in the next week or two.
