Our Iso-Mount Type2 acoustic hanger systems are specifically designed for soundproofing concrete ceilings. Please follow the link below to the product page on our website for full details: www.oscar-acoustics.co.uk/acoustic-solutions/soundproofing-products/oscar-iso-mount-type-2
Hi Sandhya. Costs are all available on our website's online shop here www.oscar-acoustics.co.uk/info/shop.asp We are supply only but Iso-Mounts are designed to be simple to install by DIY and builders to keep costs to a minimum. Typically, we recommend 3 x mounts per square metre to give a max loading of 54Kg/sq.mtr which is adequate for most installations. Then add 15% to allow for inefficient spacing due to the fixed joist positions. We hope that helps!
Hi Ben, You mentioned type 1 is great because it's fixed directly onto the joist and not the floor above. We have concrete ceilings here and type 2 and 3 would be fixed directly flat onto the concrete. Would this mean a loss of performance for impact noise reduction? Is there a technic to create "fake" joists to fix onto the ceiling and use type 1 subsequently without losing too much height? Our ceiling is only 2.4m high so we are not very comfortable height wise.
Hi Event Horizon. Thanks for your message. The floorboards are typically nailed/screwed rigidly to the joists, so vibration passes from the floorboards to the joists very easily. It is the rubber block in our Iso-Mount Types 1, 2 and 3 that breaks the path of vibration to the new ceiling boards. One of the reasons we fix the Type1 to the joists and not the floorboards is ease of height adjustability. Type2 and Type3 are designed to fix directly into concrete (or under joists). Minimum height loss for Type2 is: 50mm void + thickness of new ceiling boards + 5mm for settling and plaster coat, so if using a single 15mm ceiling board the minimum height loss would be 70mm. We hope that helps. If you have any further questions you can reach us on +44 (0)1474 854902 or mail@oscar-acoustics.co.uk. Best wishes, Oscar Acoustics
Hi Ben, I will be using you’re type 1 on my living room ceiling shortly. I was wondering do you get better results going from the 6mm gap to closer to the 40mm gap? Thanks
Hi Gary. Great to hear you will be using our Type1 hangers for your project! Yes, in theory the increased gap should increase the soundproofing performance. If you have any further technical queries please call us on 01474 854902.
Hi Ben, maybe I missed it but what is the recommended gap between these hangers? I'm fitting a new ceiling to my wonky victorian joists. Also, is it necessary to have two layers of plasterboard? I was thinking of using a single layer of British Gypsum acoustic/fire retardant plasterboard at 12.5 or 15mm.
Hi Jonathan, We recommend 3x Type1 Iso-Mounts /sq.mtr - EVENLY SPACED - this will give a maximum loading of 54Kg/sq.mtr. Where the joists abut the walls, fix the Iso-Mount to the joist 150mm away from the walls then divide the remaining space equally to achieve 3 Iso-Mounts/sq.mt. We have a drawing of a typical layout that we can send you if you email us on mail@oscar-acoustics.co.uk. Subject to fire requirements, you can use a single layer of plasterboard. Hope that helps! If you have any further Qs please email them through to mail@oscar-acoustics.co.uk.
How do you prevent the 'triple leaf effect'? That is, the airspace above the existing ceiling, and the space created by the resilient channel? Does the added insulation prevent this from occurring?
Hello and thank you for your question. The triple leaf effect is not something we have encountered, so before responding to you we contacted an acoustic consultancy company for advice. We sent them your question and a drawing of the Type2 Iso-Mount onto an existing ceiling creating the triple leaf arrangement that you describe, with the lower void being 50mm. They have confirmed they consider that the triple leaf effect will not be an issue with our system. The de-coupling of the ceiling from the joists using the Iso-Mount is the most important factor here to reduce airborne sound and also impact sound. Adding insulation in the cavity will improve the overall sound reduction. They confirmed that a larger air gap does give better performance, however, using the construction shown in our drawing, (we are unable to upload the drawing here - if you would like to see it please contact us on mail@oscar-acoustics.co.uk) is very common and they are not aware of any sound issues caused by the triple-leaf effect as it would be the low frequency levels that are affected rather than the mid to high frequencies experienced in the average dwelling. We hope that helps! Please let us know if you have any further questions. Best wishes, Oscar Acoustics
We are afraid we don't ship to the US. The main reason is the metal channels are not available there. We suggest that you do a search for 'Genie Clip' which are made in Canada and may be available to you.

Hi Adam, Thanks for your message! We have a full case study for the Iso-Mount Type1 from a recent customer - Richard Bowler. Richard wanted to tackle noise transference as part of his basement flat renovation. You can view the case study via the below link: www.oscar-acoustics.co.uk/info/index.asp?page=iso-mount-soundproof-ceiling-case-study-355 Richard commented: “For acoustic isolation, the Iso-Mount system is superb. It even created a perfectly flat ceiling despite the uneven joists above. Noise transfer between house and flat is far, far reduced. When experiencing noise transfer now it is normally through an open door or window rather than transmitting through the floor/ceiling. The Iso-Mount system is a brilliant way to isolate between floors and I couldn't be happier with the results. The ceiling is superb and flat as a pancake despite the uneven joists above. I highly recommend it." There are further testimonials available on our main product page too, where you can also view our Type1 installation animation video: www.oscar-acoustics.co.uk/acoustic-solutions/soundproofing-products/oscar-iso-mount-type-1 Our new Iso-Mount overview video is also available to watch, if you haven't seen it already: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mkltV_ngMCA.html We hope that helps. Hi. Thank you for your message. We are not quite ready to launch in the US as the standard channel is not currently available. We hope to in the near future so watch this space.
I'm afraid we don't ship to the US, the main reason is the required metal channels are not available there. We suggest you do a search for 'Genie Clip' which are made in Canada and may be available to you. Best of luck!
Hi Zairryn. Thanks you for your message and apologies for the slow reply. This system would be relatively easy to remove when you leave. It is sometimes used in heritage listed buildings as it can be removed to exposed the existing ceiling if required.
Oscar Iso-Mount achieves (better than), compliance with British building regulations Document E for both airborne and impact sound. Testing carried out by an independent accredited acoustic consultant has proven the Iso-Mount to reduce airborne and impact sound levels by 75-80%. Iso-Mounts combined with insulation between joists are designed to reduce both impact and airborne sound, insulation alone will give poor results if the ceiling boards are not isolated from vibration transmission. Sound passes through ceilings and floors as vibrations and sound pressure waves generated by footsteps, music or voices in an upper flat. These penetrate and travel through floorboards, joists and ceilings in the form of vibration and noise. By creating an isolated, floating ceiling using Oscar Iso-Mount acoustic hangers you will stop the vibration that causes the transfer of unwanted noise from floor to floor. Hi, you should setup here in Singapore as a lot of flat owners are suffering from inconsiderate neighbours upstairs such as heavy stomping, dragging of chairs, dropping of items...
Hi Phil. So sorry we missed your message above! We would be happy to ship our Iso-Mount acoustic ceiling hangers to Singapore. They are fitted using a widely available standard clip-on steel channel in the UK but we have found in the past that isn't always available to purchase overseas. Is the below Gypliner steel channel available to purchase in Singapore do you know? www.british-gypsum.com/products/metal-products/gypframe-gl1-lining-channel#technical-description
We have a carpenter that installed it in his garage so he could use his power tools at night when his children were sleeping in the room above. His feedback was superb!
Hi Carmen. Thank you for the great feedback and sorry for the slow reply. I'm afraid the products are not yet available in the US due to the standard channel not currently being available.
Fuk me how many times do u need to mark the wood with pencil....and I've never in all my years seen someone put a small level on a bracket .... The boards will pull it flat.
Hi Ben, I live in an apartment and my above unit pple are vry inconsiderate. This guys are very big size and walk like king Kong they don’t care about pple who live below them. Each time they came home I know b’coz the walking sound is like stooping and I find it very annoying. Pls advise b’coz I hv already go up and talk nicely to them but of no help. Thank you
Hi Peter. I would do the ceiling first. This will help to reduce flanking noise down the walls. I have done it this way in my old and current homes and works really well.
Always complete the ceiling first. That way, the wall drywall helps to support the ceiling drywall sheets at the edges. It makes for more stable joints, with greatly reduced risk of the plaster cracking over time.
They say never work with children or animals; I can certainly vouch for that. Hope you enjoy the Ellie Explains series. Would be great to hear you comments or ideas for new acoustic facts you'd like to hear. Thanks and don't forget to like and subscribe!
Really excited about this Ellie Explains series. Having paid for a days filming only to have Ellie refuse to even speak for the first few hours was stressful to say the least. We kept our calm and she came through. I shall be releasing one a month throughout next year. Please do let us know if you have any suggestions for new acoustic facts or content. Don't forget to like and subscribe!
Hi Feronom. Yes, these perform better and have the flexibility of being able to adjust height to give absolute minimum height loss or put up flat ceilings across uneven joists. It can also work our cheaper than some other competitors when you add up all the components required. Hope this helps.
ilive into an apartment .and these people live above me .they are so nosie .where the floor that when they walking u hear them .then they drop stuffs in the floor.if I could fix the problem iwould have .but the apartment its not mine am only renting.how can or what can iuse to block the noise out without destroying the apartment.
Hi +Charline Delisser. It is sometimes possible to pump the Celbar insulation straight into the void without taking the ceiling down. This will help greatly with airborn noise, less so with impact noise
The Iso-Mounts are the best way to deal with the impact noise as they are breaking the path of vibration which turns the ceiling below into a speaker effectively. If the boards are close together, the Celbar will not blow through. If there are larger gaps, it is advisable to seal with a bead of silicone if the ceiling is down. Underlay on the floor above will also stop it.
