National Flooring Equipment is a resource for professionals in the demolition, construction, and flooring industry. We help you cut through the noise and connect you with the solutions for the problems you face. This channel will give you tips and tricks in surface preparation, from improving tool efficiency to selecting the right angle for your toughest removals.
Have a concrete slab home…is it reasonable to grind down 1/2” in one room? 255sq ft. If so which grinder and wheels should I use? Not going to polish. Finish to lay LVP down.
Unfortunately removing a half inch of material is not a reasonable expectation for a grinder. Can you do it? Yes. Should you do it? No. The cost of labor, wear on machines and tooling alone make it prohibitive. You should really be using a Shave Master (from Airtec) to do that much bulk concrete removal. After the concrete removal, you can grind or shot blast the surface to the proper CSP for the self-leveling overlayment you’ll use to adhere the LVP. If you’re just floating a floor over it additional grinding or shotblasting may not be necessary if the floor conforms to the flooring manufacturer’s specs. Depending on the location of the slab, it may be cheaper to rip it out and replace it rather than try to remove that much concrete.
Built with hard goods removal in mind, speed wasn't our focus with the Gladiator. Check out the 6280 Commander or Rogue (up to 150 feet/sec) if you're looking for speed!
We do! That is something that is covered in our Hands-On Training. Our next one will be in the spring. Please email marketing@nationalequipment.com with a mention of training and we can further the conversation there!
We run a 5000dl and struggle with residential ceramic tile. We’ve done about 5500sqft total (haven’t had it that long). We tried the 2” shank that came with the machine and it did fine other than it kept turning sideways? Which left huge gouges in the slab. We had to stop every 4-5 runs and turn it flat. After the tile was up we put a 6” blade with swivel head and tried to take the mortar up. It got about 60% of it but we ended up using rotary hammers to get the rest. The hammers ended up being faster and more productive overall but definitely more work.
I have no idea why this video was on my recommendations. I dont currently, nor have I ever worked with carpet removal. But the video production was well done and the presentation was good. Keep up the good work guys.
We have methods of adhesive removal from pump spraying light mist of water(not if hardwood or moisture sensitive flooring is going in unless Air conditioning is removing moisture) to old self leveler sometimes mixed overwatered, let dry, then grind as the set material stays in place to grind and fully extract simultaneously. I don’t put excess sand through hoses and system for wear and tear purposes. Scraping excess (ride on/walk behind) prior to grinding helps unless the grinder overrides the scraper efficiency. Hi Dave!
why didn't you say the CFM vac size recommendation for that shot blaster vs larger one. you almost did it, but didn't finish well. remember, we are watching these videos bc we NEED info.
I like the changing to larger tooling as process continues. I would have to know the “why” tile needed removal. I considered glass mosaic for ours but do the research and it’s not feasible. I’ll go to any exotic island and remove flooring!
Battery life is tough to estimate as material being removed impacts lifespan. A glued-down carpet removal will put significantly less strain on the battery vs. something like hardwood removal. That in mind, we estimate roughly 4-6 hours on a charge for the 5000 and closer to 8+ hours on the 5700 and 7700.
Could you guys make a video on how to fully maintenance a 8274-4. How to replace the belt, how to change damaged couplers, and how to replace bearings please.
Hey guys, I’m interested in the ROI worksheet info and partnership info. We’ve rented 5000 and 5700dl’s a dozen times in the last couple years and were interested in buying one for our company. Both for personal use and to rent when we have no need for it. Can you point me to those resources or expand on them here?
Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me out with finding a refurbished unit, preferably a 5000 or 5700. We currently only offer an install only service but are looking into expanding to demo services too
That’s as clean as a whistle because that tile was installed the day before. What about thinset that was installed for 20 years and thinset is super hard? That is not what happens out here in the real world and not a controlled environment
I have two National machines and have taken up close to a million sqft of tile and wood. I use nothing but the swivel heads. Sure i might bend a blade but very rarely.
It's definitely tough to see on video, but we can assure you there is grout in the joints. A Hilti hammer is a great tool! We love using ours with the Power Hammer Trolley as shown here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C6UyEaLe7Sk.html
