Why does "The Hill" have these 'Children Reporters' talking about issues that they are "Clueless about???" Raising Minimum Wage IS "A Tax Upon All Americans." Real Businesses, (NOT Political Mandates invoked by WOKE NIT-WITS, like Newsom) have to contend with three (3) types of REAL costs to stay profitable and stay in Buisness: 1) Labor, 2) Materials & 3) Overhead. In the fast food industry, 'Labor Costs' effect their profitability the most, because preparing and serving fast food is Labor Intensive! McDonald's's operates at median gross profit margin of 54.2% from fiscal years ending December 2019 to 2023. Increasing fast food Minimum Wage from $15 to $20 an hour (without raising prices) will reduce that profit margin by -33% to less than half that profitable margin to 21%. Raising food prices only aggravates the issue more by passing the total increase "The Bill" onto the backs of ALL Consumers, who have NO Immediate Way of offsetting these increases themselves. Thus, Newson is trying to get away with "Pandering to Special Interest Groups" by having ALL Californians pay for what is essentially just another "Welfare Tax And Scam" to placate Low income workers, at the expense of REAL JOB CREATION!
The answer is cutting government programs so we are not constantly borrowing money. Make the government as small as possible. It should not take $100 billion to build a sub-standard train in California while the rest of the world has much better trains for fraction of the cost.

She had a really good take on this issue. We've gone way too far down the road of allowing large corporations to shape our economic landscape. Mom and Pop locations need to come back and help circulate money within local households rather than large corporations siphoning off profits to other areas meanwhile paying as little in taxes as possible.

I was hoping to hear if he would support a public health plan (such as Medicare for all), since the main reason many can’t start their own business is insurance tied to their employer. My daughter recently got married and found out to add her and her son to her husband’s health insurance would cost almost $800/month. This country is ridiculous!

Hey, Missy, you need an economics education. Poorer families both eat or work fast food. These same families may get an increase in wages, but then their food bill increases. And the government raises taxes on them because they are in a higher tax bracket. Lady sorry maybe you should work fast food. Then lose your job when your source of food and work closes. These folks dont have many options. Easy for you to say let them close when your belly is full.
Fast food stores (California anyway) are already raising prices, and starting to use touch screen kiosks to cut back on cashiers. I get that people need a livable wage, but as they introduce automation to limit employees… what’s the point? I understand something needs to be done, I just don’t think things will work out the way she thinks.
The Mom and Pop shops suffer first! The fast food Mom and Pops can only survive if they don’t hire anyone outside of their family. Most small businesses flee this State. The liberal view on this proves to be backwards. Also, Amazon is a monster in so many ways. We avoid shopping Amazon as a matter of conscience. The company you work for has to match your federal taxes for every employee. Plus they have to pay taxes on their own. All of that money comes out of your paycheck! I keep hearing people ask, where's the trickle down? There it is, trickling right back to DC!
I was an NPR listener for two decades. NPR always had a left-leaning bias, but they were also circumspect and self-reflective. They lost me 10-years ago. Even my wife, a lifelong yellow-dog Democrat no longer listens to NPR and she long ago stopped her donor checks. NPR has nothing fresh to offer. They've lost credibility because they don't listen to Americans. They prefer that we listen to them without questioning them. For me, NPR has nothing fresh to offer. They've become part of the background chatter. Further, their leadership is arrogant and self-congratulatory. I was once a defender or NPR, but now I know our culture would be none the worse off if NPR simply folded their tent. Sigh.
The fact is with any member of the populace potentially being armed it does not matter the amount of de-escalation training you give. If you are hostile with police they have no choice but to escalate in their defensive posture because you could potentially be armed. It is a safety concern with the officers. You cannot have them trying to simply calm down or take hold of someone who could potentially be armed and prepared to potentially mortally wound the officer. This is one of the trade offs of having a largely armed populace. Softer training and stances will lead to more officers being hurt or killed in the line of duty. There is no perfect solution to this, only tradeoffs.
