Breaks me heart you don't like the wonderful Sennelier oil pastels. The best way to use them is as the final layer of a watercolor painting or to put the final touches to a watercolor or any other medium like a harder oil pastel. Senneliers are wonderful but not everybody likes them because they are too creamy.
Thank you ❤ for sharing this idea ! I have a painful chronic illness and I am at drs offices a lot …it never occurred to me to bring my art supplies in a neat small case to entertain and relax myself before the appointment ! I imagine it will feel waaaay better than looking at my cellphone .❤
I do love using it, hopefully you feel the same once you are able to get your hands on it. I will not that some times it will have the colour underneath bleed into the white. Like for example if I am using an Ecoline Watercolour marker, the ink for that is strong and I often dont wait for it to 100% dry before I lay my Posca down. But I still love the look it gives so I use them all the time.
I really like the Pablo pallete. I wont lie, i also like the Luminance pallete. I am a pencil collector and artist. Im not sad that i got both sets. Having a ton of fun.
I have the 76 set of Luminance and was surprised how chalky they were. I’m going to use them, but I don’t see myself replacing them as they run out. The Pablos are actually my favorite colored pencil over all. I have the 12, 18, 40, and 120 set. The only pencil that is scratchy from time to time is the Ultramarine. Caran d’Ache, like all other brands, struggles with the blue to blue violet pigments.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I will say, that I love my ultramarine Luminance, it is smooth but there are times when it will have a bit of scratch, I’ve recently run into that this week, though I’m not surprised. Ultramarine is a grainier pigment overall for most things.
Oh that is good to know, thank you. I do love it when companies use eco friendly supplies. Which is why i like to recycle/reuse shipping supplies with my orders.
Great video , very interesting. I’m going to try a colour wheel but are not clear on which are the primary colours in this set. I suspect that none are but You seem to have chosen lemon yellow, alizarin crimson and cerulean blue whereas for me the more obvious ones would be cadmium yellow, cadmium red pale and ultramarine. Btw I’m a total beginner so likely to be totally wrong. Windsor and Newton are not that helpful on the website. So would be interested to understand the reasons for your choice.
This pan set provides two types of primary colour options, warm and cool colours. It will all come down to which colours you prefer, It may be helpful to learn the pan set by mixing multiple colour wheels with the colours that you get. That way you can see what colours you can create with them. In the end you may love how the lemon yellow and ultramarine make greens or how the intense blue and alizarin make purples. Happy exploring your watercolours
@@leahevergreenart thanks for speedy reply and as i start my watercolour journey can already see that much is a personal choice. You may be interested to know that when I asked Winsom and Newton the same question they replied “In this set, the 3 best colours to use as Primary colours that will give you lovely ranges, violets and greens are Yellow Lemon Hue, Alizarin Crimson Hue and Ultramarine Blue.”
I have a Luminance that's quite scratchy and doesn't behave like the others - the Chrysocolla Blue, a bright turquoise. I just assumed it's the pigment because it was one of the newer colours at the time, so I kept it. But I rarely use it now.
That’s so annoying, I’ve also had medical issues that were straight up ignored by doctors AND my parents. I’m glad you’ve found art and that you’re sharing your story! ❤
No, not similar in my opinion. Caran D'ache Pablo & Luminance are more pigmented and way more wax than oil. Pablo are harder cores than the Luminance. But Polychromos are more oil based and a hrader transparent pigment. Pablo and Poly work very well together. Just my opinion.
Actually ALL colored pencils are made from BOTH oil and wax. Depending on the pertange of each they are then classified as an oil or wax colored pencil. Pablos are classified as WAX pencils as well as the Luminance. Caran d'Ache does not sell oil based pencil. Although as I explain they both have oil too. But to say Pablos are an oil and wax pencils is confusing cause ALL colored pencils are.
I think the Pablos may be like Polychromos. You get full intensity by making several light layers, not by pushing hard. As opposed to, say, Prismas which you can smoosh on at full intensity.
Chronic illness is horrible and as no one cant see it thet dont get it. I have fibromyalgia OA OP and other issues. I met a few others at an informal art group and so many have illnesses too. Its good to know im not alone. Art and the group has been awesome
It is very hard when your chronic illness is invisible and others can’t see it or understand. Im so glad you found art and have a group you can lean on.
I have a full set of both and like the both. There are some colours in the new 24 that are scratchy in the Luminance. Thank you for the comparison. Keep creating 💜💙💛
The scratchiness is because certain pigments make it harder. So the core isn't as soft as most of the luminence. I forget which ones off the top of my head have the problems. If you watch people who swatch all the colors you'll often here them remark on the ones who are scratchy compared to most. You can even here the difference when they go down. Same with watercolors some pigments are just harder to deal with just like us humans. 😂
Those are so cute! Random question - what are you using for a paint palette in this video? I've been using a variety of plastic lids, but I get sick of washing them. :)
Thank you! ☺️ Hopefully a helpful answer: It’s a plastic flat palette, i used to clean it but it got hard and harder to do it so i just leave it now. Add paint as I go. I personally love glass palettes they are really easy to clean( all you need is a spray bottle and a glass cleaning knife/scraper), I didnt use it for this project cause it was packed away.
This is a great idea. May I suggest a couple loops where the zipper begins and ends? I've had to rig a few of my cases so I can clip on cheap amazon purse straps so I can walk hands free. Also maybe a 2 or 3 inch thick elastic band across the front to hold a sketch book or thick palette? Looking forward to your kickstarter launch!
Very excited you're a step closer to the kickstarter! As for the colors, I tend to go for darker colors that aren't black, so of the selection, my only choice seems to be the blue. My vote would be for something closer to these colors: 005C53 , 8C034E , BF0436 , 812B8C , 2A5928
Thanks for answering my question with a video… very helpful! I don’t have any large markers, I tend to use a variety of pencils / neocolours, like to have a variety of brushes and my palette is tinier. I would definitely have NO problem fitting a little sketchbook with those supplies in the case 😊.
Well, to each its own. I have many, too many art supplies to fit in one pencil case.... 😂 So I tend to group my supplies into 3 wide categories: Neutrals Warms Cools Sooooooo... If it was up to me, I would buy 3, and would love to have a color coded pencil case. Sort of color coded... Maybe a bluegreen one to store my cool colors, a red, yellow or orange, to store my warm colors, and a grey or beige color to store my neutrals, you know my grayscale and browns. 😅
this is old video but for anyone havign issue of smell art supplies but not wanting to waste them - try getting some mask with filter (like ones art conservators use)
These cases look amazing ❤. Of the colours listed, I’d choose the purple/lilac. However, I’m a sucker for red or maroon. Is the large case big enough to hold an A6 sketchbook in the back with a tiny paint palette? I’m always looking for the type of case that holds everything for grab-and-go.
Hello, thank you so much, that is a good question and I’ll make sure to answer/show in my next video. It will depend on the size of the items you are using and carrying but I have been able to fit my small A6 in there. Also, thank you for choosing the purple one, I too am also a sucker for a good maroon ☺️
@@leahevergreenart The video is so helpful!! Definitely enough room for the palette size I take on the go (and I don’t have large markers, so that should help it zipper closed quite easily). Thank you!
As cool as they are I saw a lightfast test it wasn't pretty. Much of it faded quick according to that test. For multiple layers or sketch work it looks great. I saw gelatos and neocolors had some fading but did better. I'd like to see more tests to decide.
If you want more texture in your gesso there is a clear liquitex gesso that is slightly more textured. Some people say it's a big difference. Another option might be to use watercolor ground.
Thank you, I’ve used it before, i think it works great with when you want to layer on top with coloured pencils, but I haven’t tried watercolour ground… now that sounds interesting
