Greetings from NZ. Thanks for posting this. In 2019 while visiting my daughter in London I took a trip from Whitby to Goathland on the railway. At Whitby the Driver let us on to the footplate to have a look and I had a good chat to the Conductor. I really enjoyed Yorkshire, friendly and welcoming people and a good beer (Black Sheep).
I remember visiting relatives many years ago in Newton Upon Derwent when it was a small, quiet village almost idyllic.I returned for a visit a couple of years ago when up in that part of the country for sentiment reasons really though my relatives had long passed and found it barely recognisable..Gone were the little cottages, farms, lovely gardens etc and in their places were modern, large and by the look of it many recently built large houses most of which were situated where lovely cottage gardens had once been..Judging by some of the vehicles parked in said drives I can only assume many of the older properties were when they came up for sale bought by money people from away or developers...So so sad to see but alas the way of the world these days...Still I have my memories from a time long ago spent in what WAS once a lovely little village...
I did a walk with my dog the other month around Cowlam & Cottam that just took in the chapel at Cottam. I started at Cowlam Manor (Church Farm) that took in Cowlam Well Dale & Cottam Well Dale, but nothing really of the DMV of Cowlam. It's can be found in "Oscar (Woofy Dog)" file entitled, '2018-05-19 A stroll around Cowlam & Cotom with Oscar' if interested.
This Woofy Dog is a beach comber but he doesn't like the water. That's what you get for being a Poochie Boy! Bridling bay walking towards South Landing.
