Retired this week in the most Dustin Martin fashion. One of the most naturally talented players the game has ever seen, well and truly one of the greatest as well. I have only been on this earth 16 years. But for me, his 2017 season alone made him one of the greatest and it is still only beaten by Gary Ablett Jnr’s 2014 form prior to his shoulder injury. I remember my grandfather stating just after this grand final that Dusty 2017’s season was the best he’s ever seen from someone outside of several of Leigh Matthews seasons . Pretty high praise from someone who has seen nearly every great player in our game’s history. Was my favourite player despite the fact I was a pretty one-eyed Hawthorn loving kid at the peak of his powers. And I’ll never forget the miraculous goal he kicked against us in the 2018 Preliminary Final. By far the best I have ever seen live. We were so very fortunate to be here on Earth at the same time as this legendary footballer and witness one of the very best (and perhaps Richmond’s best) to ever grace a football field. If you’re reading this Dusty, enjoy retirement.
One word Superstar 3 norm smiths out of 3 grand finals. It's not if but when will they put a statue of this Richmond champion outside the mighty MCG. DUSTY MARTIN SIMPLY THE BEST.
The country should have a 5 minute silence in honour of Shane Martin to show our respect to Dusty and he's family .At the first game of the season 2022.be awesome REST IN PEACE SHANE MARTIN .
True, but he doesn't want to be a permanent forward though, that was one of the main reasons why he left Geelong, so that he could spend more time in the midfield.
It really puts perspective into just how dominant that man really was. He's still a gun, had a rough year and a bit but hopefully gets back to his great footy.
this bloke played for my local footy team tea tree gully and he is an absolute star at the game I'm friends with his cousin holly and I ask her what jack was like when he was little ahaha
What about that young boy he was not camera shy!! I can still remember him saying Great game you're a champion.and alex said thanks mate. For me that was a super special day the tigers after 37 years won a grand final and my first premiership since I was 8 years old and now they have 3 out of 4 years sometimes I pinch myself because it feels like it's a dream. GO THE MIGHTY TIGERS.
