I have a Seiko watch that looks identical to it. But it is a slightly older model built in January of 1976. It was a university graduation gift from my parents in 1977. I wore it continuously through the late 90s until I started to buy Longine watches. It still runs great. As you can guess I'm a little bit of an old timer.
My dad just passed away in October . My stepmother gave me the watch my dad wore daily at his funeral. Yesterday she gave me the rest of his watches. There are a few pocket and wrist watches. One of the wrist watches looks exactly like yours. It has the day on it and it’s in Japanese and regular numbers next to it. You mentioned that you can tell the year but I’m not sure which numbers you are looking at .
Firstly, I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you're doing well. In regards to the year... That's a bit complicated, but you can deduce when it was made through a process of elimination. The digits you need to look at should be on the caseback. It's a six-digit number. If it looks like mine, then there's a good chance it was made in the 70's or 80's. That's when this style was popular.
Bro, by chance I saw your video cause I was digging some info up for a watch I had forgotten for a long time. Mine was a little newer Seiko SQ100 from 1983. It was the first and only proper watch my late father bought me, just by chance I found it one of my old drawer. Pop a new battery in and it jumps back to life, been wearing it all day around the house just like how I remember when I first got it. 😭 It's funny how when you get older, you get so nostalgic. Man, time really blew by so fast looking back....😭
I'm very late to this, but this post gives me joy and made me tear up. Happy for you and the nostalgia you had for your dad and finding your watch he got you ❤
