My belive is that Michael once wanted to make his dad proud more than Elizabeth (before he saw his father's true face). I mean, considering the way Michael behaved in the past, it's likely that Michael thought that both his parents saw him as a dissapointment (problably only William). He wanted to make him proud but he didn't think that was possible. And he's frustration turned to anger as he started bullying C.C (fully given up on himself) But when his father sended him to sister location to save her sister, Michael thought this was his chance... only to see the madness his father has fallen into. And when he got scooped, he remembered from the blueprints that Scooper was his father's design. The reason he would want to make him proud is that Elizabeth wanted to make him proud cause she thought this would make her dad love her. Michael wanted it too, but he also wanted to show his father that he wasn't a dissapointment. And after Evan's accident, it's likely that William called him a dissapointment.
