It's always very impressive to watch the great Master Glen Keane animating. He is so confident in his skill that he don't even need to put on the light under his drawings. Only the best can do that ! Thank you for sharing this amazing demo.
sure, and the position are quite spaced, but, drawing like this withoutnthe help of the light is pretty difficult if you want to be consistent with your proportions. Plus, you may loose the meaning of the movement if you can't check the 2 or 3 previous drawings.
technically he's animating pose to pose in a chronological way, he's drawing the 1st 80th 150th etc etc. drawings and not drawing the first then the second then the third. but that's being nit picky. i've heard some disneys say stuff along the lines of "if you know where you're going you don't need to draw the end pose first" and some say that it will give the animation more life
this guy is a master with rhythm and motion you cat learn to draw any kind of life without practicing this in all your art work 30 yrs of drawing and i was missing this the whole time
"Im not an artist, im a cartoonist." Ha, almost word for word for my motto when I see all this dynamic hyper nice art piece. Except my motto is "Im not an artist, im an animator."
Sometimes I want to listen to Glen talk while I do my own drawings or go about some business or other, but I can't. I have to keep dropping what I'm doing to look at his drawings and examples and stuff. I can't not give Glen my undivided attention. I had to pause the video to type this. Dang it, Glen!
Amazing to watch him draw these characters completely freehand with no preliminary drawings at all... all artists amaze me but the one who can do that are like superheroes.
...most likely a Palomino Blackwing, i quote from their website: "Palomino Blackwing 602 - Firm and smooth formulation Blackwing pencil. Product Description: the Palomino Blackwing 602 features a firm and smooth graphite core that helps it deliver on its promise of “Half the Pressure, Twice the Speed.” Its unique and iconic ferrule allows you to extend and replace its eraser after extensive use and even “hack” your pencil to give it a custom look."
Yes it is. His preferred pencil is the Blaisdell Layout pencil, but those are out of production and he pretty much owns all that's left. I'm sure he doesn't use those for presentations like this.
Glen's keyframes for Tangled were incredible! I animate (freelance) and always hope my character will appear as dynamic and dramatic as Glen's work. Great artist :) Thanks for uploading this! - Cody
