after following all of the steps i've managed to get the controller working on the switch, however it doesnt work while in game for some reason. anything you can suggest?
The Palm III and Visor used the same CPU (the Motorola Dragonball, yes that is the real name) but Handspring changed some of the waitstates in the OS (or something to that effect) and it felt snappier. You could do the same on a Palm III with hacks. And the biggest difference between the Solo and Deluxe was that the Solo had 2mb of RAM and the Deluxe had a hefty 8mb. Those discs were just full of Shareware cuz they were free to redistribute. I even have some discs that came free with a magazine. The modules were really what made this come alive. I remember I had the Tiger Woods module, the eyemodule and blank one. Now though, I have the phone module, I have several card readers and even a rare MP3 module. You know it was really a shame the DOTcom bubble burst had to negatively effect every tech company, even those not involved. Ofc with so much "free" money out there it was no wonder that weird modules were made so at least we have that. I actually had a Palm IIIe back in the day and when I upgraded to the Visor Deluxe it was amazing! To go from 2mb to 8mb was great~
Hi, i just got one of these and it doesnt work, when i slighly push a battery in i sometimes see some faded shapes on the screen. Ive cleaned the contacts but still the same. Any idea what can cause this?
Fantastic video even in 2024! It would be great if you could do a follow up with more in depth use of web, RU-vid, etc (whatever applies). There just aren't enough videos like yours. I love my LifeDrive. It's my off grid backup. 😂🤣😎🤘
Definitely all the software that came on some form of physical media, cd or sd card was pricy. But there was a lot of free and shareware versions, and for the rest there was usually some way of getting a copy. At least I don’t ever remember paying for software, if I did it was more like a £1-£2 donation
@@RetrogradeScene I see. I just vaguely recall seeing Palm software at the office supply stores back then. It was expensive to my young wallet. Lol. Fun fact: I had an aunt who was convinced all tech gadgets caused cancer. She would go on epic rants.
One question: Do you know where to get replacement silicon contacts for the left. right and fire controls? Mine are pretty badly worn out and it takes a bit of pushing for it to work.
I’ve not come across any that I know would fit. But have you tried putting on some carbon paint? It’s a conductive paint you can put on to the contact bit on the back of the silicon. It can work wonders.
I was always going to upgrade my T:3 to a lifedrive, but unfortunately Palm went Bust and I regretfully gave it a miss. I just checked Ebay and the only one for sale was £299, so it looks like I'll never experience one. I guess they didn't sell very well. Great video! Subscribed

My father had mine and he just gave it back to me. I got it working, but the piece for the move buttons is very worn. It's turned into a sticky mess, actually. I'd have to come up with something different to get it to work. Springs, maybe?
Tried doing this with newest version 1.06 and couldn't get it to work. Rolled back to 1.04 and it worked lovely first time so anyone having problems maybe try that. Haven't tried 1.05
my 8BitDo Stick just arrived today . Firmware is up to date and newer than in the video. The Stick connects to the controller and it works on windows / steam using this combination but on the switch - even though the stick connects to the controller - my switch show no reaction. Any Ideas?
@@RetrogradeScene solution for me was: go to settings, remove all synced controllers, reboot switch. Everything works now like a charm. Had to sync my other controllers again of course
This was the first handheld I ever owned, I was 7. Later in its life the character film came off and everything was just dots. Hours of fun memories with this. I do find it weird that fire button was on the left, wasn't weird back then.
These are some of the best designed controllers of all time. Too bad Stadia wasn't nurtured by Google like it should've. About two years ahead of its time and just needed another 2 years to hold out and really compete. Ppl didn't get it at first and needed more education in the marketing. Now we have these orphan legacy wonders of engineering.
