With regards to his equipment such as boots and gloves Alison mentioned hypothermia which can cause something called paradoxical undressing which may be possible. But there is a possibility that his equipment was taken and redistributed as only his gloves and boots are missing.

One of the symptoms of hypothermia before death is to think that you are feeling extremely hot. Patients will often start taking off their clothes, unzipping jackets, removing gloves and boots. Many of the recovered bodies are often partially dressed for this reason.
