My name is Matt and on this channel I post knife making videos and different forging projects. I started this hobby in March of 2023. I am by no means a professional but like to share what works and what doesn't work for me in hopes to help people with different knifemaking steps. I hope you enjoy the videos and learn something from them. Let me know in the comments what you like about my videos! I respond to every single question or comment as I like to know what you think! Thanks for your support!

@@samdahlandsonsforge VERY BOLD INDEED!!!! Out of all the knives I’ve made this one is by far my favorite profile for every day carry and use! I used to carry a larger knife with a full sized handle and it definitely could cut more things better but the large handle just made it impractical to carry everywhere. I think this profile is a really good balance right in the sweet spot!
@@Co60-Ni60 with all the modern steals available that are formulated specifically for cutting I think modern Damascus is really just about the look, but having multiple steel types in one blade does put more alloys into the overall piece Therefore, giving it a slight advantage compared to just using one steel type… I suppose it’s debatable on who you ask! Thanks for watching!
@@StevieWonderwall thanks dude!!! Not bad for my first go at it!!! Probably looks crappy to other Damascus makers, but I love it because it’s my first one! 😂
@@samdahlandsonsforge thanks brother! lol my mom and my aunt like to go to flea markets so they find ones for cheap and keep giving them to me… hahahahaa
Depending on what they are looking to make atlas knife and tool makes a few different styles that come completely cast with refractory and are the only forge ready to go right out of the box just install the regulator on the burner and propane tank put the burner in the forge and go
@@David-ie9ov depends on what you’re trying to forge. I bought my single burner forge on Amazon for under $100 and really it’s big enough to do most things…. I mainly make knives and if you’re wanting to stay well under 100 it’s hard to beat a pre-made single burner online you can look at options to make your own, but the fire bricks are kind of expensive so you’re still spending 60 to 80 bucks to make your own… good luck, brother!
@@David-ie9ov I just looked at the vevor single burner online. It appears to be a Venturi style burner and if so, that’s pretty much what I have. I bought the “Simon store” brand and it gets plenty hot, especially if you buy a few fire bricks to close off the back… I don’t have a thermocouple installed in mine, but if I had to guess I would say it gets my billets up to 2000 to 2200 degrees Fahrenheit, which is plenty hot for forging it’s a little tricky to do treating in because it gets hot pretty quick, but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed for your first one
The work around for heat treating is adjusting the amount of oxygen you pull into the burner the more O2 you have in the mix the higher your temps will go
Take that twisted layer and hammer it flat enough to place between the other billets for your restack. Again, with the first forge welds make it so much hotter than you think you need. Whatever temperature you think is good, leave it in the forge for 5-10 more minutes and let all the layers cook until they will be blending with the other stacks. Its always hardest to lose a billet once you are at the higher layers.
Hand forging is a crazy amount of work, but probably much more satisfying if things go really well. Less layers doesn't mean it's bad anyway. Might just give you a great result
@@rebel4466 thanks for the kind words of encouragement! I tend to agree with you… even if it’s low layer I’m still excited to see how it will turn out… being my first one and all! Thanks for watching and sharing!
Sorry brother 😮 Twist Damascus scares the crap outa me. Where did you pick up your table scribe. (Height gauge?) I went for a cheap one and it will barely scribe wood.
@@TBWblades it was a birthday gift from my mom she said she found a link on a Kyle royer video back around Christmas… top ten things to get a knife maker I think was the title
