Years ago I was at the army camp at Lydd and got a day off. After a fish dinner at The Pilot, a group of us caught the bus to Hythe for a few beers. The only problem was there were no buses going to Lydd from Hythe, only New Romney, and we'd missed the last scheduled RHDR service, which terminated at Hythe. Knowing that the locos were stabled at Romney, I managed to blag a ride back to Romney on the ECS train, for me and my mates. Let's just say that it was a lot faster than a normal service train. Even my pissed up squaddie mates were impressed. We gave the crew enough beer tokens for a good time, as an expression of our gratitude. Nearly 40 years ago but the best preserved railway journey ever.

A beautiful route with magnificent locomotives! It's very enjoyable to see from your perspective how you try to maintain control over the locomotive, and it's clear that you must remain sharp at all times, monitoring both your fire and water levels as well as keeping an eye on the track. Again, it's a very enjoyable perspective; there are only a few on RU-vid who produce such lengthy videos with good audio and video quality! 🚂

The engine was named after the late Roger Matthews, son of Charles (Senior). His brother, Charles built a relatively short (~500') track around the house that he and Roger had lived in their entire lives. On Charles's passing, it returned to Statford. Charles Senior had amassed quite a collection- the majority of the collection was passed to the Ontario Agricultural Museum, forming something like 50% of the collection. He was a house mover, as were his sons, who were great supporters of the Ontario Electric Railway Museum in Rookwood. The collection extended to 3 Sentinel waggons, the superheated Garret wagon, a pair of plowing engines, Micheal, King of the Scarlets, the Wren (Roger) and a 2' gauge Cranberry Engine (ex Bobber Gibbs). The Kirkfield (Ontario) 0-4-0's passed through their ownership, (the old pair, not the last in use), and a mountain of other stuff- Kirkfield side dump hoppers, ford T engines, maple leaf barbed wire....there was mountains (literally !) of stuff in the yard. It's my understanding that King of the Scarlets was run in the early 1960's at Langstaff. flic.kr/p/2jKzcNz In steam, in Langstaff, Ontario. David Powell and Larry with it

Hi there "Suffolk Steam", thank you very much indeed for uploading + sharing this great video of this amazing "model railway". While watching it my "little boy´s heart" awoke again inside of me and filled with joy and happiness. I grew up not far away from a train yard for steam engines of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB = former stately German railways) in the early 1970ies. The very last steam engines of the DB were still on duty and running. And although it was strictly forbidden, I very often strolled around the steam engine train yard, in and on the engines, while they were unattended and their fires were still burning. If I close my eyes I still do smell the mixture of coal dust, engine oil and soot in the air. This still gives me goosebumps up to this very day. These were the happiest moments of my childhood days. Thanks for reminding me again. (excuse my poor English, please). Thumbs up, of course ;-). Take care Thomas from Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany Ps: As a German - who lost two of his greatgrandfathers in WW I - it really makes me sad seeing the UK leaving the EU. I wish I did not have to see this day in my lifetime.
