This channel is primarily for videos relating to my various wargames creations starting with Mortem et Gloriam (200BCE to 1500), Renatio et Gloriam (1425-1725) and Divisions of Steel (WW2). All of these are now being published by Plastic Soldier Company with more to come including the SCiFi-Historical crossover game Battle for the Solar System, Gloire de Guerre (Napoleonics) and Men of Steel (WW2 skirmish). Have fun!
Hi Simon I just found the Gamefound Proejct for Total War Rome Boardgame but its hard to find reviews about the game and if its worth the late pledge. What are your thoughts on this, is it worth ?
Simon made the game, so his answer is likely yes. There is a fan made tabletop simulator version you can play that has an outdated rulebook included in it if you want to test it out yourself. I get the impression that all the mechanics are simple but come together in a way that adds a lot of diverse situations and choices. And with the faction pack, you could play anywhere from solo to roughly 20 players.
A wee query on the double move with a shift. Can this be used with the free half-base move, which would mean that they end up three bases to the side instead of two?🤔
Simon, I am quite confident using the rules after reading the excellent Compendium three times (I read all rulebooks three times before even trying a game) and the Compendium is a pleasure to follow. Now I am working my way through the videos in no particular order and must say that they really reinforce what I have learned from the book. Thanks for making Mortem et Gloriam so easy to get into.
Excellent. And do check out the new pro videos we are doing on the Count Bohemond page. See you at Historicon i hope. Encourage everyone to come along. Going to fun. Finally after Covid we get to bring the game properly to North America in al its purple glory.
AS a large battle game you don't want that to explicit as it would be 2 figures a maniple. For that you need a special ruleset figting much smaller battles, But the system handle it in effect in that the a legion of MRR is 5 bases - 2 hastati, 2 Prinripes and 1 triarii so the 3 ranks exist. As battle progress you stat mocing line of a few of these , then them indicual , then end up moving individual bases. the alternitve is to accept you are playing a much smaller came and set each 4 base usin to be a maniple and then you can do it excatly as it was. And it works really well at breaking up a vilaent charge or delaing with elephnats at Zama. But the reality then is you will have 1 legion on the table at normal rmy size (10 legioanry untis and 4 velites is about and army). but if you have enough figures you can do it triple ize and voila!
@@CCC_GAMES that’s for getting back to me and forgive my ignorance. Your ruleset is really interesting and I’ve been watching a lot of your content online and listening to the podcasts you’ve been on. As soon as I get a little more time (3 kids at home under 3 😆) I’ll definitely be purchasing the boxset and getting my local wargamers involved 👍
@@BearGrisham Superb and much easier not. All going PDF and local print on demand.Just need the dice and cards from PSC (or soon me). Check out the other 2 Simons Shows via the wesite - me ad Dr Simon Elliott refighting real battles with new insight. My Sabis rrerefight and our alternative Cannae are very intresting.
@@BearGrisham The end is the best bit as I explain my theory of why Rome lost but could haev won but for their overly rigid consula leadership methods. They win the refight ...
Fantastic. I am sure you will really enjoy it. Found a way to make roads work nicely and in a simple way. Markets, Barracks and Walling all playing a big part in the game. Adding "Ancient Wonder" as the 5th ultimate build. Very happy with the economic and regional development rules and components now. Game looks great as well with all the developing items appearing on the board. I have found a way to take some things off the map which will make them stand out even more.
Hi Simon just wondering if you will be doing any more vids to cover all of the rules? My friend and I have just bought the rules but are struggling with some of the intricacies and would love to see more vids covering all the rest of the rules to help with this.
Hello, i bought the book some days ago and learned the rules; i Have a question about Elephants and block moves: in this video It seems that you are moving a block of Elephants+infantry+cavalry, while in the rules It says that Elephants can block move Only if the block Is composed by infantry, elephants or wagons. What am i missing? Why Elephants are allowed to block move also with cavalry?
The points systemfor Mortem et Gloriam is by far the ebst balacned ever created BTW. It was left online and we optimised it based on 5 years of play. So armies using the points system are really 50-50 affairs, then swung by PBS, play and dice rolling. Iys also a pretty celver points system that gets rids of additive only which is fundamentally flawed - so in Mortem et Gloriam superior and fully armoured is worth more that superiro + fully armoured, as it should be as one improves the other.
www.theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/product/mortem-et-gloriam-sassanid-persian-meg-pacto-starter-army/ there is an Army list designed by me for each Pacto box set.
Got to aim that camera a little better. Hittites were cut off from view for most of the battle. Maybe some close up shots of those beautiful little minis wouldn't hurt either. But interesting game anyhow.
The figures are great. I now have a full Sassanian army using these. Very easy to paint and based well look as good as metals, if not better than some. PSC also have fantastic customer service. I cannot wait for them to expand their range. Anyone know what ones are next?
Speaking as Lurkio owner I love my metal Sassanids, but I actually like my new Plastic ones even better. I never ever thought I would say that about any plastic figure.
I wish technical problems had been resolved earlier. The rules look very promising, but this was painful to watch at times. I still think this is a ruleset i would like to try.
Yes do give it a go. Its a lot of fun and the armies have very good historical feel. What were the technical problem? It's a video of me playing people in Thailand. But no technical issues I am aware of.
What are you watching on? T e entire sheet seems to be on screen when I test it. We are looking at some other warrants as well to make it increasingly accessible.
And there's the first snag. A Excel spreadsheet. Not all devices people use are running Excel so any spreadsheet needs to be multi application otherwise you are automatically cutting out s significant amount of users.
@@draxspellfax9427 For some it does not work well on Google Sheets either, the Print page 'Display' drop down merely produces a mass of garbled icons (as mentioned on the MeG FB page discussion). On Libre Office it also works, mostly, but again, system specific issues with that too.
We wanted to make a breakthrough in points systems so for a while important to do it this way. But we are now looking at making it increasingly accessible for everyone. More news soon.
Thanks Bob. That is indeed what makes it as a game. Very interesting flow and feel that represents a lot of army characteristics naturally and feels like the ebb and flow of action. Army lists are core income fro Mark Bevis my co-author so we are doing those the same way as he does Micromark - online and a small charge for each list, pick and choose what you want. S
i do this 1. wood glue..sprinkle sand..let it dry.....2. wash in wood glue and emulsion....let it dry....3.dry brush and super glue the static graas...a damn site easier and massively less messy
Another good way. How do you cover the figure bases? I always found they stuck out before I found this method. What I like about this is they disappear completely with ease.
@@CCC_GAMES your right...some fig bases are very thick.....i forgot your method is how i based FOW figs using outside emulsion which was soopa thick !!!! too messy..
