I was six when this song came out, in the early to mid seventies a movie came out aird on TV (Go Ask Alice) about a teen girls struggles with drugs. Our Jr High School required us to watch it and some classes had discussions and others did a report on the movie, it was a big deal back then.
When I first saw this I was sitting at a desk on a desk top computer and nearly fell off my chair. I couldn't get myself together for about 20min. Could not for the life of me stop laughing. When he got himself up and had the white powder in his hair and said "What the f---- was that?" got me. He didn't know what his name was.

Bought Surrealistic Pillow when it came out in 1967 - and played it over and over…especially White Rabbit and Somebody to Love. I grew up in Southern California as a teenager in the ‘60’s and saw quite a number of bands, including the Airplane. Great time to be a teenager.
I’m 77 … long story,, but my friend only 18 out of high school was working at a dance/music place in the Long Beach, Ca. Area … she say you gotta come down here and listen to this girl… my friend let me in the back … got me a beer … I was only 18 in 1965 when I graduated… yep it was Grace Slick … before she hooked up with the JA group … I got drafted out of college in 1967 … Army 1cav 11B infantry… AFVN … the Armed Forces Vietnam Network … we didn’t hear or listen to much radio out in the field, but back in the rear on LZ Sharon up north I heard this tune for the first time … smoke it 🚬 🤪
@@donburnett8594 Yeah, 1965, she would have been just beginning to sing with The Great Society (the band she helped form with her then-husband Jerry Slick and his brother Darby- who wrote Somebody to Love). She was so lovely and as we’ve said before : incredible voice.
Being a child I always hated Alice in Wonderland. All the story seemed to me an endless nightmare. But now, listening to this song I suppose that the author of Alice wrote a very "adult" story about the "adult life" in general...
