I think he is THE single best representative of the SEAL teams. He is articulate, humble, honest, self deprecating, organized, driven...and on and on. If I had a son that aspired to be in the teams...he is THE person I would want him to meet. He is absolutely one of my heroes...eventhough he steadfastly denies that he is A hero. We need to clone him for a better world....we are so fortunate to have him.
According to Admiral McRaven, the former head of JSOC at the time of the UBL mission, DEVGRU was picked because had just rotated back from a mission cycle while CAG was already deployed overseas! I have nothing against what you are saying and SEALS in general, but that's what he told Jocko Willink in their recent podcast! And by doing so, since Admiral McRaven being a SEAL himself caused a little jealousy inside JSOC for picking up DEVGRU, which he told that was just casual!! Just a thought :)
DEVGRU (ST-6) got the Osama bin Laden raid because they were the main Special Missions Unit (SMU) in Afghanistan, it's that simple. Back in 2003 after we invaded Iraq and Gen. McChrystal was commander of JSOC. He made CAG (Delta) the main SMU in Iraq and DEVGRU the main SMU in Afghanistan. Yes there were still members from both units in both AO's, it was fairly limited though.
The 2 arguments i hear regarding the UBL raid is # 1; The JSOC commander in 2011 was McRaven, so naturally he wanted Team guys in the history books. Or, Argument # 2, DevGru had earned their spot to be assigned that raid, as they put more time into that AO more so then any other SMU. As you said, CAG was given the Iraq AO early on in the GWOT.... retired CAG member Jim Reece said in a podcast while back, that "argument # 2" was the correct narrative, and said he has nothing but respect for choice in using a Team 6 troop for that particular Op. Although there is strong words to be said on how CAG would of handled the publicity compared to DevGru who obviously cashed in on the success. Depends who you talk to i guess?
I thought DEVGRU was tasked with the UBL raid in Pakistan because that was their AO; whilst CAG had Iraq and the immediate vicinity as their respective AO?

greg anbrose you’ve never seen these guys perform live then! Probably the best 70’s disco cover band out there. I seen them play numerous times when they came to Vegas! Best shows ever! They packed the place!
@@ashleybarloweNC You're the one that needs to stop relying on movies too much. It's a cheer that Navy SEALs use, beyond training and even as civilians, or for others to honor what they've done, like Marines say OORAH and Semper Fi or soldiers say Hoo ah.
