Considered the most influential Jazz photographer and filmmaker in Montreal,
Randy has filmed, photographed or recorded notable jazz artists from Joe Chambers (Blue Note album cover, 2023), Ron Carter, Emmet Cohen, Ulysses Owens Jr., Ben Patterson and Jimmy Cobb. Frequent collaborations with Vancouver's Cory Weeds of Cellar Music, and Montreal's l'Orchestre national de jazz de Montréal (ONJM) have kept him busy, and Randy has been the primary documentarian for saxophonist Yannick Rieu, and Ottawa based guitarist Roddy Ellias. He has documented Juno award winning and nominated recordings including Joel Millers “SWIM”, Christine Jensen’s “Habitat”, Trifolia’s “Refuge”, Marianne Trudel’s “La vie commence ici”, and Christine and Ingrid Jensen's "Infinitude". He has filmed and recorded extensive collaborations with New York saxophonist Azar Lawrence, and Montreal saxophonist Al McLean.
I own an eighteen seventies Martin 0-28 and it sounds just as good as this Martin. Wish I could play as well but I do love to play in art shows here in Daejeon, South Korea. The guitar looks exactly like this nineteen hundreds model except it has the New York stamp on the back of the headstock, no serial number (they started with the number 8000 in 1898 ),but no position marking on the fretboard. This consistency is one of the strengths of the Martin guitars, they make them to the sound and each model has its unique sound specific to that model, but within models the sound is very similar. You have the dreadnought sound with the deep base, the 00-18 sound that is very well balanced, and the 0-28 sound that is stronger on the treble notes. Another example is the D-28 and the D-35. The 28 has a strong base whereas the D-35 has a mellower base sound due to the different bracing under the bridge. Personally I love them all and am lucky to have examples of most of the models to play in our old Korean Hanoak. Thank you Mr Martin!
Not to take away from the committee, but there's plenty of other trumpets out there that can paint more than just jazz or classical, bears brands and models that can paint pretty much anything
I'm very late to this party, but I hope you still have this guitar! It sounds lovely, and I'd say you are a worthy player to have it. Has it changed much in the 14 years since you played this demo?
It Monsieur Rieu was willing to supply the piano and lead tenor sheet music for this… I would love to play this just for my own enjoyment. What a great tune and spellbinding performance.
Its got a tube sound . Very soft rounded airy feel . With roll of on the trebbke . Mesns no crisp or adge when playing hard even . Great for jazz & bossa But very bad for latin salsa or clasical.orcestra . ❤
Killer of a drummer man! Wish your bass drum was louder and heavier in bass sound! You’re to awesome for your sound to not be basey enough! Cool, hot band!! God richly bless you fine men!
Music written OK. Must be interpreted. That's the most difference between written and interpreted... End results. Very nice music. Just a bit of lack on feel, solution: rehearsal before record. 🙏
Someone who appreciates period piece correctness should have played the demo on this old martin guitar. It would have been nice to hear something melodic resonance, and distinctively american of the period the instrument was born from.
every time i check in with this channel i find music that can't be found anywhere else on youtube. most jazz music on youtube are either piano or guitar oriented, but people want windy jazz (sax / trumpet) for a more soothing listening experience... very glad this channel exists👍
Loooove that change-up near the beginning, caught me by surprise. The drumming is also good, I like the syncopation at the beginning with the snare coming in early on the beat. Very nice song!
Listening to this in 2024. 12 years is but a blink of an eye and yet so much content gets pumped out every day, every week, every year. Of course not all of it is good. But this… A timeless sound with a hautingly beautiful intro! Great vibe!
