Another one knocking out the arm fixing bolt... This is NOT necessary, the caliper bolt head is accessible with offset box wrench properly inserted. It allows ca 15° turn and after °repeating that turn 10x you can usually continue with fingers... I had to find myself during my repetitive brake maintenance, because EVERYBODY seems to present this painful technique as the only way how to loose the caliper free. Of course, it requires clean thread and bolt properly torqued after previous maintenance.
Hey, thanks for posting the video. It helped me fix my rear brake on one side since the mechanic hasn't inserted the piston pin to the brake pad, and it wasn't breaking correctly, and I didn't pass the technical check. After seeing your video, I was able to fix it myself🙂 I have got another issue 2 years later. My rear hand brake gets stuck for some reason, and of course, it also makes noise when I drive... the slower I go, the sound slows its frequency. Do you have any idea what it could be? It seems that it has something to do with cold weather, but I am no mechanic. Could it be just that some parts don't move due to them losing the grease on some part of the connection between the handbrake lever and brake itself?
I have driven Hyundai for last 10 years and bought the i30 brand new and after that Hyundai Ioniq hybrid brand new. Both have had a lot of issues with brakes (especially rear brakes). The brakes get very easily stuck and start binding and making noise even when almost brand new. You have to do extra maintenance for the brakes every year if you want to avoid expensive issues with Hyundai brakes. I will switch to another brand due to this reason.
Absolute car novice here - I'd never done anything beyond checking my oil and topping up fluids, and I used this video to change my pads for a quarter of what the garage was quoting me. Thanks for the great video!
Great video, thanks for sharing. Question: did you need to bleed the system after replacing reinstalling the injectors? If so.. what is the procesure? Thanks in advance!
Turns out no. I've sold the car to a neighbour and he replace injector 4. Couldn't figure out how to recode it. Started the car and it runs fine. No excess smoke or weird noises. He tows his caravan with it, fully loaded as well.
Excellent video. Just a question: when resetting the piston you were just pushing the piston in not screwing? I know some pistons needs screwing such as my late Passat.
The threads on one side striped out on mine. Luckily i was in the shopping park doing 5ks. Though the kit has sleeves that were way too short. 87mm vs the 111mm origonal. Supprisingly all the chain stores use that brand. But id rather not gamble on it especcialky after the feedback reinforces not to. In my searching to unsuccessfully find sleeves on their own, i noticed it looks like l200, triton and pajero parts crossed over. So If i see an older pajero/triton parked im gonna stick my noggin under it. 😅
Under the bumper, below the fog lights, you'll find an oval panel, (both sides), you can take that panel off. That give you access to the back of the light and the wires. As far as I'm aware that's how it's done. Bit of a fiddle but shouldn't be too bad.
I have a cranked ring spanner which let's me undo that lower bolt for the pad carrier without having to split that suspension joint. I have had problems getting the right pads, some of the ones offered at a local motor factors didn't have the pip on the back to engage with the slot in the caliper piston, which is essential to stop it rotating. Don't rely on the shop telling you 'they're definitely the right ones for your car mate' The genuine Hyundai pads had it, and so did the Pagid pads I bought. These also came with replacement shims, some brands don't include them.
I just did my daughters rear brakes on her aussie i30 2014 , I had to set the caliper piston with the indent at the bottom with the rewind tool so the dimple on the brake pad engaged into it . I believe it holds the pad dimple holds the caliper piston so it cannot rotate. I had to use a birescope camera to see that it engaged correctly it's abit of a pain once it's in correctly you can feel the pad doesn't move so freely.
I have a 2.5TD Terracan 2001, it has the same problem with starting, it struggles to start during summer, and it's a bit better during cold winter days... Local mechanic has no idea what to do with it, Fuel pump is good, fuel filter brand new, but the glow plugs dont work properly, they dont glow most of time [even during -20 Celsius weather] i replaced glow plugs and glow relay, but still nothing has changed.. so i gave up
Judder over 2700 rpm. Plus heavy diesel smell under bonnet. Engine light came on over 2700rpm too. Went off when turned off and on again. Sorry for delay in reply, been working haha.
Hello from Chile, thanks for this video. I have a problem about my terracan only with rear hand brake. Can you show in new video how Change IT? Best regards
The brake shoes or the handbrake cables? Mine don't need doing but I know of some videos on Hyundai vehicles, (same set up as Terracans), that I can direct you to. South Main Auto; How To Replace Rear Parking Brake Shoes - Hyundai Sonata. Chris Fix - The ULTIMATE Guide on How to Replace Drum Brakes Weekend Agenda; How to Replace Handbrake Cable - Hyundai Accent. (multiple parts) The cable isn't exactly the same but it's a decent guide/idea of how to. As I said, mine don't need to be done and so I'm not tearing it apart just yet. I'm sure it will one day but the above will guide you very well. I've written them out so you can copy and paste the titles and they'll show up. Thank you for watching and hope the above help. :-)
@@albertozanartu4015 unfortunately I've never changed the cable for the handbrake. As far as I'm aware it's pretty similar to most cables and just an "unhook" either end, drop down or pull through and replace. Sorry I can't be more help at present. Sorry for delay in reply, I'm currently going through a house purchase and have no time it seems hahaha.
Hi mate, Loving your Terracan videos! I'm from NZ and got my eye on a 05' manual crd with 257,000km's (reg services till 200,00kms) and 2 owners. Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for during test drive? Perhaps wait for a lower milage one? Cheers
Steering, the box needs adjustments. So it may be very loose. Injectors fail as the pump has a tendacy to fail internally and shive metal shavings up the injectors. Rust, although that may not be as big an issue for you, I don't know. Watch for smoke, EGR valve may be clogging or someone may have turned it off. Noises from the transfer box, so run it through 2h 4h and 4l. The 4 wheel drive is more a diff lock, it doesn't have a centre diff, so be warned. People use them in 4h or 4l and leave them in it, locking up the front diff and causing damage. Seals on the transfer case fail, so look for leaks. Rear brakes are pad and drum. Drum for handbrake. Some people, (my other half), sometimes forget the handbrake is on and drive off. The shoes inside the disc/drum wear really quickly. So the handbrake may be toast. To be fair, outside of an injector pump failure it's all general wear and tear you'd expect from a vehicle like this.
Late reply, but if your looking at the Crdi then 257 is still fairly low kms for what the engine can do. It's a diesel engine, so its not rare to see many going well over 500,000 kms. With petrol they start to die at 300,000ish. I bought mine at 230,000 a year ago and now up to 265000 (delivery driver lol). It was sold by a dealership, but i bought it sight unseen because im special. Its had some big problems, pulling to the left, limp mode when at 15psi boost for more then 6 seconds, and oil leaks. Finally going to a mechanic soon so finally going to have it all fixed up haha. Some modifications ive done to mine: 3 inch lift, new 17inch awesome looking rims, complimented by 265/65r17 all terrains, nice big bullbar with all the lights, and some minor mods like touchscreen head unit, new sony speakers throughout and a subwoofer. On my soon-to-do list after i get her fixed up, im going to be installing a duel antenna UHF radio, custom exhaust, an engine tune and custom drawers for the back. I spent 8000aud to buy it, and ive put 15k in 4wd accessories into it. Fuck 4wdriving is expensive shit haha.
Thanks again. Do you think it's pure chance on injection failures?. Is there a better chance by filling with "top" diesel only?. Mines at 130k (Kms), fresh oil and filter regularly, top diesel fuel used. Cambelt changed at 90kms (before my accident) lately changed out the dual clutch and flywheel for a single mass flywheel as the original lot failed. It was predictable. So I was prepared. Took me a while to do on the front path. Nowadays, it's slightly rougher or chunkier on changing gears but it'll last the life of the vehicle. I intend keeping the car bar rust( right now I'm changing the windshield cleaner motors for the second time...what is it with Hyundai washer motors?). At 180k Kms I'll change the cambelt, if I can. Water pump too, plus tensioners. I know of no one out there with diesel terracan high mileages, thus I'm not sure how injectors hold up. The engine was an Italian design 'Moto Morini' (or similar name). They designed many diesel engines. Hyundai paid patents and altered bits and pieces to suit them to make their 2.9. The engine goes right across their Hyundai/Kia 2000s range from trucks to cars, people carriers and 4x4s. Thank you again. Any advice.
The copper seals can fail if you drive it hard. That was my whoopsie. I may or may not have "raced" it a little one day. That resulted in the pressure build up knackering the seals. Mine is an automatic so I have zero flywheel issues on that front. Funny you mention the windshield motor. My wiper motor is failing as well. Finding the right, reliable, part is a pain in the rear end. My biggest issue at present is the throttle pedal sends the wrong singal every so often. Supposedly a common problem. You'll be trundling along and then nothing. Sod all. Have to release the pedal and push again and it's fine. It once accelerated on the brake pedal too hahaha. I plonk any diesel in mine, don't seem to matter. I know the pre2004 facelifts had issues with the injector pump failing internally. Sending bits of metal through the injectors which ends the life of those. Only cure for that is a modern injector pump. Obviously new or recon injectors if the issue has happened.
@@wearinbearins589 Thank you!. I'm just going outside to remove the windscreen washer container (wheel off etc). I've 2 motors, front +rear to replace. Bought OEM and generic so let's see which lasts longest.
@@wearinbearins589 I'm in the kitchen now. The generic connectors are not the same as OEM. Also Hyundai, in their wisdom, decided to make the front and rear washer motor connectors completely different.
@@homerfj1100 hahaha, sounds about right. I know that the Terracan was produced until 2016(ish) for the Australian and Chinese markets. If I'm not mistaken both those countries drive the same side as we do, so parts from abroad could be a potential if all else fails.
good shit lads, im gonna get the ones on my hyundai galloper changed soon enough now after watching this , from an irishman in chile of all places hahaha cheers
Out of curiosity. What are they rated to tow? I was only slightly a little bit over my permissible authorised mass on Saturday when the trailer was loaded. The van managed alright but can only legally tow 1.2t
You know, I don't know. I'll look it up and get back to you. Although I do plan on doing a review of this car for the channel and obviously I'll be talking about those figures, so... Yeah. Wait! lol.
@@wearinbearins589 how far is Ipswich lol I am heading to Ipswich and into Battersea again on Friday driving a Mitsubishi Fuso Canter 10 tonner. Didn't think there was a 10 ton Canter. Also, I can't remember seeing the black cat roundabout the other day. Is it the one outside Sainsbury's in Biggleswade? I pulled into there so my son can have a piss but big queue and he refused to just piss on a wheel so he held on to Baldock. The A14 has been moved. It was the first time I been on it since last year. It seems to cope much better although it would have been around 10.30pm when I was on it. I used to have reference points such as the bus depot and a train station and the little bridge in Huntington.
