Marcoh as Brock works so well since both men were athletes that had their careers ruined via death in the ring. Marcoh with his boxing opponent and Brock with his deaf teammate.
On one hand Tanaka’s skill tree is just stat boosts and could affect his history and early game playing. On the other hand if Tanaka doesn’t become playable I’m going to dox Miro
I think the best way to apply Caligura into the game is to, as disturbing as this is, embrace the role of *playing Caligura.* Like, the game makes you feel bad for playing him. Literally just a vile, disgusting monster who does exclusively terrible things to everyone. You’re essentially playing a slasher villain.
What if to make up for his lacking Soul, tanaka gets the chance to learn skills from other contestants, without needing their soul. Learning bare-fisted from marcoh, maybe get engrave from marina. Like, either done as specific events or a new skill that lets him maybe skip forward one "rest" and gain a skill from training with a party member.
Honestly the most interesting characters are the ones you can't play. Tanaka can literally evolve into a fighter, August and Pav are insiders with knowledge on the story. Lastly Caligura is cool because you can actually play the actual festival. This game lacks a lot in the endings, no ending of this game feels definitive like the previous game.
I think tanaka could start with the lowest damage on funger 2 but at the end he gets to do the biggest damage maybe using weapons thay other person cant use like the samurai armor and katana in the museum because he is japanese after all.
I really love the ideas for Tanaka and Samarie! In the same way that you really have to pick your battles in the early to mid-game, having to carefully pick your investments as Tanaka to have good money is really clever. I think an extra skill Tanaka could get based on this hypothetical idea is a passive that increases his damage the more money he has, or a single attack which uses shillings as ammo but is really strong. Just interesting ways to motivate you to keep your money up and use it only when necessary.

i feel like caligura would be a good character to add simply because there are no other characters rn that really have a motive to get endings B or C. It feels a bit silly doing a murder route with any of the characters we have now because if you've played the game once you kinda know that none of them would really want to kill anyone unless they moonscorch. Its one of my biggest problems with the game rn. I actually think thats the biggest problem with termina rn. Everyone is too nice.
Caligura as a playable character seems interesting for the different party interaction and the reason for him recruiting others can be very different I can picture him extorting or threating others to fight by his side, an interaction to recruit Marcoh could be him threating his sister if he doesn't join him as a body guard he could even bribe Levi with heroin or simply tempt him a a stash of it, for Abella I think she would never willingly join him but if you start a fight with her and cripple a limb of hers she could surrender and be forced to fight for him. A new coin mechanic could be if you sleep in a bed near or around your party members you have to flip a coin if failed they would kill you in your sleep if passed nothing happens, this could be a way for saving to be a gamble.
I think Tanaka should be immune or resistant to madness and other similar effects like the dude is even coherent while Moonscorched. Caligura and/or Henryk on the other hand could be the opposite, skilled combatant with a weakness to said madness effects, etc. It would be great if we could have Moonless as our buddy from the start as August!
I hope August and Pav get Moonscorch forms, even if they're niche and hard to get. Pav should Moonscorch if you heal him at the train. Maybe you could give him a Light Blue Vial to get him working but you leave him at the Bop or Train at Day 3 Night. I don't really see how August could Moonscorch, but even just a Maso Mode exclusive boss so you can get his soul would be a nice addition.
