There Avril has problems but, unlike you, other train channels preferred to use clickbait language. The Avril has problems but due to a very long delay that created lack of rolling stock Renfe had no option but to use it as is (it has no safety problems). They will get a large compensation from Talgo for the problems and Talgo started providing solutions to some of the problems. The main problem is connected to the gauge changing process and occurs on the Iberian gauge. Those trains are used on the Barcelona Madrid line with no major problems (the noise and the seats are the same but on that line it's the low cost Avlo). They will solve the problems and the next batch should be better. As for the seating arrangement, this is certainly different the norm in Europe but I have problems accepting criticism from those who idolize trains in Asia, especially in Japan, that uses the 3+2 fir 2nd and 2+2 for 1st. As for the notion that high speed train/ ling distance should be more luxuries - a high speed train is a train line any other train and the goal should be that high speed train is the long distant train, not a king of luxury product, which is what Spain is doing. That does not mean that seats should be uncomfortable (not even on low cost services) but higher capacity is a positive thing and, as you've mentioned, it's achieved by having wider trains, not by reducing the space available for each passenger. If you want to avoid a middle seat than book a seat in advance.
Hi and thank you very much for seeing the video and for your comment! 🙂 I avoid using clickbait language and try to be as assertive as possible. Thank you for noticing that! In the video, I tried to show also the train's strong points, like the bar, the legroom, and others. As for the train in general and the configuration, the issue is that it represents a step down from previous trains and that's the problem. People always like to see evolution and forward progress. With this train, we move backward and that ends up being the major problem and why I think so many people are complaining. Thank you very much for seeing the video and for your very detailed and informative comment! If you find it appropriate, please share it. Cheers! 🙂
Using low cost trains on an AVE service could never be a good idea ..... AVRIL is a high capacity low cost train ideal for AVLO services .... Renfe did not even implement decent seats on 1st class on this train .
@@fernandom5070 They cannot do it right now as they need those gauge changing high speed trains on regular AVE routs. They need to add standard gauge to the line to Asturias and Galicia (that has a planned project to do it) which will enable them to use the current Avril trains for Avlo services and make necessary modification to the next Avril batch. Hopefully the new Renfe management, that is in the final approval stages, will do the right thing to bring Renfe back on tracks.
The stetic choice of the León Station with skylights in different colours comes from the historical record of the León Cathedral with the most beautiful and coloured antique vitriums on vanes of all Europe.
Madrid - Lisbon in less than 5h:40m in less than years with this train model. Portugal is going to inaugurate a high-speed line between Evora and Elvas of about 100 km at 250 km/h. When the Convel system is tested on this train
I do wonder if when the new line in Portugal opens, Renfe might be able to extend an Alvia service all the way to Lisboa even before the opening of the full high speed line. The S-730 seems like the perfect train for such a trip, maybe the S-130 if the whole route is electrified. Just don't put an S-106 on that route.
@JBS319 Thank you for commenting! 🙂 RENFE announced plans to extend a service to Evora. As of right now, it wouldn't be possible to extend it to Lisbon but when an STM for the Convel is created, then it will be. This week's video will be a trip from Madrid to Gijón on board an S-106. Stay tuned!
Hola!
Is a 4 minute transition too rushed? Going from Lisbon to Madrid. The time between my Santa apolonia-entroncamento and entroncamento-bajadoz is only 4 minutes. 12 minutes at bajadoz to transit to Madrid train.
That's very tight and risky. It may work but I would have a plan B, especially for the connection in Badajoz. Have a nice trip and let us know how it went. And if you enjoyed the trip! 🙂
Everyone should experience the Abrantes to Badajoz Allen pleasent experience before they substitute it by modern trains. I understand and agree that people and companies develop trains to meet modern standards, but, in this jet and road world, somehow trains are the last resort for transport and travelling nostalgia. Nice and useful video.
Buen video :D.
Looks like a ghost town. Should be siesta time. Clever people, the Spanish. Inspired by your videos, in the autumn, I will pick my youngest son, and we will do the train travel from Lisbon to Badajoz and back.
It's great to hear that my video inspired someone to take a train trip! With temperatures exceeding 40⁰C, not many people venture outside, which is why the video appears mostly devoid of people. It's possible to go to Badajoz and return to Lisbon on the same day.
Thank you for your comment! 🙂 I already did and there will be a video about the Al-Boraq soon. It is, indeed, a very good train and the service as a whole is very, very nice.
This option can only work if you have nothing to do and like to spend hours in train. I'm sure the trip is fantastic but let's face it: an Airplane lasts 1h hour and this trains needs a whole day!
Of course, I completely agree. I deliberately included a stop in Badajoz in the itinerary to make it more palatable. This trip isn't about getting from Lisbon to Madrid quickly like a plane would achieve. It's more about experiencing railway tourism rather than just a straightforward train journey from point A to point B.
Don't worry high speed rail is coming, in a few years. I once took the train Lisboa - Paris, and best of all once took a bus from Paris to Lisboa. That was a one and half day journey of nothing but fun.
@@worldwide.p The bus trip was long and eventfull. The bus was going to make several stops in Portugal on the way to Lisboa. There were two buses, with a change over in the middle of the night in Spain, of the driver and the second bus. So in Paris, the passengers who were going all the way to Lisboa, had their baggage thrown into the hold last, because they would be leaving last. Get it. Because in Madrid, with the change over to the new bus, the luggage would be removed in order, and immediately thrown into the new bus. So now my luggage and all the others going to Lisboa were right at the back of the hold, becasue they were coming out last. But after changing buses, somewhere in Spain, in the middle of the night, the bus broke down. There was a panic, with the luggage thrown into the new bus any which way. So, as we made several stops all the way to Lisboa, at each stop, the passengers would go nuts searching for their luggage. My luggage must have been in and out of the bus 5 or 6 times.
Definitely! Lisbon's commuter trains are modern and well-suited for such service. Even the Class 2240s running on the line to Setubal are quite satisfactory for commuter transportation.
@@worldwide.pI agree that the 2240s are good enough, but still not really modern imo. The 2400s suck imo, they are slow to get to speed, slow topspeed, break down quite often and produce a lot of noise. Compared to german or Austrian S-Bahn or Dutch sprinters for instance, not really modern trains 🥲
Well, I can understand what you mean. Portuguese long-distance trains aren't on par with their Western European counterparts. However, in some routes, at least, they are a tolerable travel option. Let's hope for better times. 🙂
