Because of the influence of Katherine Birbalsingh, my parents had to pick me up from school every single lunchtime to pray salah for a year till I moved schools (there were no spaces in the Islamic schools)!

For the living with in-laws situation, its important that the husbands perspective is understood. We're not all mummys boys that want to be babied. We have real responsibilities to look after our parents. As a man looking to get married in next few years inshallah, I want my future wife to live in the family home with my parents. I can't bare the thought of my parents struggling on their own as they go into their elderly years. My mums a housewife and my dad is a taxi driver. Like many bangladeshi immigrants He has worked tirelessly for decades for his family, and now in his late 50s, he is still working full time to support us. Both parents are slowly showing signs of age related health problems (aches, pains etc). As the eldest son, my goal is to one day fully take responsibility for the financials and support the whole house. I want my parents to be able to take their foot off the gas and enjoy life. If i agree to the demands that these girls are asking in terms of they want a seperate house away from in-laws, I know I cannot financially support 2 households. Even if my income increases, surely cost of living will too. Personally I will be stretched by making wife happy and at same time my dad will need to keep working fulltime till he dies or falls ill. Girls don't realise that looking after your parents isn't just about visiting them, they are alot of practical aspects involved, and for someone like myself on average income, living seperate from parents comes with alot of difficulties for the entire family.
