Led by trombonist and composer Sean Nelson, the New London Big Band is a "full bodied and polished brassy big band" (Jazz Weekly) made up of 17 of the finest musicians in New England. Formed in 2016, they play monthly to sold out crowds at the Social Bar + Kitchen in New London, where they attract professional and amateur dancers from near and far.
Their album, Social Hour, released to critical acclaim on Summit Records, is “a smartly swinging young crew…their beat can’t be beat, and they know and show that swing is the thing.” (Midwest Record) The album received airplay globally and charted on the jazz radio charts. The band performed an album release concert for a sold out audience at the famed Birdland Jazz Club.
That was nice. Curious if the audio is off a board feed or a mic more out in the audience. It was clean and well balanced. Loved how the guitar came in clean. Freddie Green lives!
Great playing by a great band! I hope to be able to hear you live sometime in the near future. I love all these videos that you keep posting. I know it's hard work to put them all together but it's really appreciated by those of us who watch them. I share the link with my entire community band and have already gotten great comments, one whom compared the vocalist to Patti Page, Jo Stafford and other singers of that era. I agree -- your vocalist does a great job of evoking that era, as does the whole band!. Great ensemble sound and great individual playing!
Great job. I recently did a virtual version with my big band (on my channel if you want to see) I love this tune! Looks like a cool place to play there too.
I also shared it with TPIN because we were discussing how people playing different trumpets, using different mouthpieces, can blend their sound so nicely and I thought this video was a great example of that, not only in the trumpet section but also in the trombones and saxes too!
Awesome big band -- awesome video! I finally get to hear this band! Wow -- amazing! Thank you very much for posting this -- I've shared the link with my community band so everybody can see what an excellent band you are!
