Look into getting a bale unroller. That way you can unroll it accross your pasture spreading the fertility and the impact. This way you wont have the over-trampled spots where the bales are. In deep winter you can unroll in a spiral which will let the cows bunch together as they graze, keeping each other warm
Our biggest issue is that the ground does not freeze over the winter. We may have 1-2 frozen days out of 10. We thought of getting one but it would be way too muddy. Thanks for the idea!
We are in Bedford county, PA...I built a bale unroller to pull behind our side x side so we didn't have to run the heavy tractors on the fields. We run around 40 cow/calf pairs and I agree the mud is a problem with the minimal freeze we get anymore. We've been unrolling about 3 years now and love all the benefits of unrolling like preventing compaction, spreading fertility and seeds and manure over a larger area and no mud cause the cows are spread out as well.
