The hand's just a reference point to let you know where the wall is, the driving power comes from the legs, getting as close to the wall and the speed of the turn are the crucial elements
Well!..I should say you must think of your arms from recovery to hand entry has been like engineered crankshafts. The continuous rotation motion comes from the arms with little dead spots. The shoulders then act as engines. Thus driving the body forward. Especially speed swimming. You find your own desired head position looking directly down or at 45 degrees or preferred body rotation. Straight swing or high elbow, Experiment.. As simple as that.
Hi GoSwim, do you do video analysis? I am trying to improve my freestyle swimming. If you have a couple of minutes to point out my biggest problems and how to solve them would be highly appreciated: watch?v=S6DL16aHY0Q
Hey I tried thie and I am able to do it. The first tip head tuck was very useful. My legs are reaching the wall but I am going down, need more practice
When i was a kid i once put a pair of kids armbands on my ankles while playing in a small pool. It immediately made me upside down and i nearly drowned. Don't ever try it.
After years of slowing down to find my fast with kickboards around my ankles there were times when I doubted the technique… Then I started doing mat Pilates and was introduced to some moves I had no clue as to how I was able to pick up and execute well 1st attempt. The progress was there, I needed to see a dryland application. Holding and resistance of rotation and torque is truly important. Our core control deserve the attention.
