Yeah I don't think they are the only band doing it, but I do like their sound, the melding of a lot of subgenres that were considered fairly disparate maybe 10-15 years ago is pretty cool. There's always been metalcore/screamo crossover acts (the critic comes to mind), but it's def getting bigger these days.
yeah I want to post stuff that's more accessible! People are looking for gateway material for post-hardcore/screamo, and this era of Norma Jean is great for that.
I learned it in drop d when I first started, then intonated the guitar to Eb standard, so when I "drop D" it goes to C#??? I dunno, when I play this song it comes out full muscle memory so I couldn't even break it down for you lol
Loads of stuff I havent heard of here. Looking forward to digging through them! Orchid's Chaos Is Me will always be the album that made skramz click for me.
Nostalgia hit with this style of music, I remember me and the one homie that liked this music going to go watch the band Innards with The Reptilian. Good times
my man Dylan dropping another fire video. I've actually been watching all your videos dude they've been super solid and helpful. I've been listening to your stuff with Excrucis and I love your guys sound.
Great upload as always Dylan, thanks for the recommendations. Some recommendations for that old-school metalcore sound: a mourning star, Watch You Fall ('The Burden of Being' rips), Balmora, Since My Beloved, Memento., Bury Your Idols, basically anything coming out of Ephyra records. Balmora's 'With Thorns of Glass and Petals of Grief' was a highlight for me last year. Also 'Artillery From Heaven' by Contention is an insane debut from earlier this month.
