DO NOT REV a cold air cooled engine. This is the quickest way to write it off. The 2CV should be warmed up slowly and gently especailly in such cold conditions, and btw check your use of the choke ...
Indeed, it is. The 2cv engine, though, - I believe - needs no cylinder gaskets, due to precision machining and lapping. Nevertheless, you don't want to rev a cold engine when oil is viscous.
Hello there, could I use a part of your video for my cold-starting compilation? of course I put a link to your original video in the description, increasing the original’s popularity too. Thank you for answer in advance :)
Lovely 2cv . Stupid owner. .it's cold weather X snow. Don't over rev it in cold weather . Let it warm up on its own . Your doing more damage to the engine . If you rev it like that . God. Help us ??? .one born every minute
The only reason I sold my 2CV was because it would never start in the winter even when it wasn’t particularly cold. I couldn’t find a mechanic that could solve the problem 😢
Congratulations but please, don't accelerate so much, it's no good for all the elements of the motor, just idling a couple of minutes and after that going around slowly is the best
Don't speed it up to high RPM! As you show in 1:28 it is cold, the 2cv does not like cold, so you shorten the useful life of the engine considerably, think that everything is contracted by the cold it is all harder even the oil, check the exhaust pipe thanks to the cold shows the loss or puncture in 1:25
May I ask please as to what you think you're achieving by revving the nuts out of a cold engine & in -15 Celsius too?! The answer as you will not answer this as you are too proud to admit it: Absolutely sweet nothing! The golden rule is this: When starting an engine from cold whatever type it is, NO REVVING! You will wreck the engine & do untold damage inside if you carry on doing this! How about applying full choke & perhaps prime the carb with petrol before you attempt to start it?! But please NO revving a cold engine in any way shape or form!
@@eliasandersson413 Yes, exactly, I am working on a classic car garage, and all of those Flat engines (Citroen flat two 2cv, ami 8, ami 6, LN, Dyane, or flat four on the GS, Or VW/Porsche flat four) are known to be very fragile at cold start. Accelerating like this with a 2cv is dangerous for the engine and its head gasket, and it's the better way to explode it..
@@user-di5nf8sd2b Yes I know, poor little 2cv in this clip :( When I start my old cars when cold I pump the gas pedal a couple times to give some extra gas down the carb, then I start it whithout giving any gas and let it idle for a while. Works fine on my car in C°-15 ;)
What a monster... revving up an engine when its cold. Make that often enough and you have a serious problem. And for crying out loud, give the engine choke at the start ... that poor car ... my heart bleeds
Oups ! Please, don't accelerate so much when your 2CV starts cold, very cold even. The flat motors don't like that, more than other motors. Slowly, slowly, she wakes up and warms slowly... :-) And use just as you need the choke, your 2CV have to take PRM slowly.
What year is this car ? I think that any well maintained car , with winter weight oil , should start easily at -20 Celsius . ( -4 Fahrenheit ) I am not talking about a car that has a block heater . If it has a block heater , I think that you should expect it to start at - 30 Celsius , or colder . I wonder , has this car been sitting for a while ?
@@doluggs There are several kinds of " block heaters" . One is an electric "blanket " , which is fitted over the engine . Another has a piece that fits in the radiator , and heats the coolant . I used to have one on a Volkswagon , that fit under the oil pan ,and heated the engine oil .
@@williameddy1662 In the last 50 years though, I have never seen a block heater on a 2cv. I assume that - if ignition, valves and carburettor are set correctly - you don't really need one.
@@doluggs You are probably correct . Well maintained cars will start at -30 Celsius , if they haven`t sat too long . However , I do think that it is better that they do have some kind of heater . I realize that the little Citroen is a terrific car .
