I think it would depend on the tape you were using. The tape used looks pretty lightweight and flimsy. Think it would be different story if higher quality adhesive duct or gaffer tape used..

When you use windshield wiper fluid, it is wiped down towards and under the hood. This is where most air intake manifolds are located. That is why you smell it. AND, if its toxic (poison on the bottle) ... you're getting a wee dose of that as well. Your only recourse is to buy non toxic fluid, or turn you air to internal airflow when using the wipers. Cheers
