Yeah. Paradox games can be a little tricky to get. Play on a small galaxy, with no fallen empires, no advanced start empires, some AI empires and no endgame crisis. (Or have them at their weakest) also, automate as much as possible so you can focus on other things. Hope this helps.
Ok, I have to disagree. Manually surveying Systems is better at the start because you want to rush habitable planets and good choke-points as quick as you can. Though I do agree about the always manual choosing to research anomalies as they can take a long time and that one gas giant one involving massive storms is terrible because it traps one science ship and requires two more in the same system to free. these new BT7a are some kind of improvement, but the situation with them is like with the British Mark series tanks there were few of them when first used

when it comes to research, most factions will bring something new to the front. The Tans will most likely invest in better heavy machine guns to destroy the enemy infantry, of which there are a lot. green ones with anti-tank guns to destroy enemy tanks, bazookas will not be enough. reds in the BT7 (because the bt5 failed the battle test) or T60 to later invest in heavy tanks such as the T28. Purple in camouflage or sniper, ambushes are their specialty, so why not expand on that. blue in tanks with flamethrowers or flamethrowers for infantry, they will have to somehow drive the enemy from the fortifications. Grays in shock troops or heavy machine guns, if they are on offense, must have better weapons, but if they are on defense, machine guns inflict greater losses on the enemy.
