God. So beautiful you brought tears to my eyes. I came on RU-vid looking for other versions to supplement Brad Leftwich's round peak banjo tuition. I was purring at the fiddle intonation and gorgeous slow double stops, and then you starting singing... and then you both started singing. Wow. Wow. Thank you so much, this feels like finding a piece of treasure.

FINALLY figured out the guitar chords, including that beautiful last verse! I'd be happy to email anyone interested. On second thought, whoever plays guitar probably has already figured out the chords, since it's pretty easy to see on the video.

That fretless banjo must have some sort of pick up. It is way louder than any fretless I’ve ever heard.

Hi Laurel... just found your music on a Spotify playlist and am rapt! I'm gonna follow and get your music from Bandcamp. Truly inspiring... question... what gear on this piece? What type of Tele is that? Custom? Pro II? And what amplifier do you use?
@LaurelPremo
@LaurelPremo 6 месяцев назад
Hey jack - that's a standard Tele, run through a Blues Junior III, no modifications on either!

Wow. That's such a moving rendition. So deeply beautiful in a time when so many folks seem to feel compelled to play old-time tunes at breakneck speed.

When I discovered old-timey music in 1983, I concluded that much of bluegrass music was old-timey, played as fast as one can!

Pardon my ignorance, but this sounds like a tune the artist at the time years ago (I believe, Doc Watson) called Hick's lament, about a circuit riding preacher (Rev Hicks), who, while out on his circuit of meetings, got caught in a deadly winter storm AND became sick nigh unto death. Then he wrote the song to his wife, believing they would likely not meet again, this side of heaven. But he did survive & got back home. Any thoughts you may have are most gratefully received. God's blessings... - bro Paul -

Blackest Crow As time draws near my dearest dear when you and I must part How little you know of the grief and woe in my poor aching heart Each night I suffer for your sake, you’re the girl I love so dear I wish that I was going with you or you were staying here I wish my breast were made of glass wherein you might behold Upon my heart your name lies wrote in letters made of gold In letters made of gold my love, believe me when I say You are the one that I will adore until my dying day The blackest crow that ever flew would surely turn to white If ever I prove false to you bright day will turn to night Bright day will turn to night my love, the elements will mourn If ever I prove false to you the seas will rage and burn And when you’re on some distant shore think of your absent friend And when the wind blows high and clear a light to me pray send And when the wind blows high and clear pray send your love to me That I might know by your hand light how time has gone with thee

What are those red slats on the building behind? They don't line up with the joins between the irregular width logs, but nor are they cosmetically regular.

If you don’t mind me asking, how do you get your guitar tone? I’ve noticed it in a few of your videos - it’s so deep and beautiful!
@LaurelPremo
@LaurelPremo Год назад
Thank you - there's not too much in the chain. Casino into a Blues Junior. All that is between them is a little additional long reverb and a dynamic overdrive pedal that helps add a little different throat than the amp itself, but it's mostly the amp and guitar making the tone.

Another great workshop. Thanks so much! I really appreciate these. Side note, I didn't have any RU-vid commercial interruptions this time. Although I was still reaching for the mute button after every segment just in case, haha. But much better. And I saw your note about making them available elsewhere. Wonderful! Thanks again, Patrick

This is wonderful! Well Done! Thanks so much for the thoughtful time and effort it took to make this available. Much appreciated. I have my own similar practices but never put them together quite like this. I found it very engaging to practice outside of my usual routine. And the "virtual collaborative" aspect was engaging as well. One thought: I'd be very grateful if you could make these available on Spotify or some other platform to stream uninterrupted. I found the youtube commercials very jarring. Thanks again!

I'm so glad to hear that, Patrick. The concept began a few years ago as an idea for a live event, and I would love to direct it towards that as another offshoot of the practice, after shaping the series a bit.
