The weird spaceship Jesus is actually a depiction of the crescent moon from a Crucifixion scene in a church in Kosovo. Kind of like an early version of "The man in the moon"--it was often depicted with a face or a human shape. There's a little dude driving the sun around on the other side of the painting.

The biggest takeaway from this video for me is that humans are always human and will do human things. Be it grouping together to survive starvation or be creative through music. The NK gov might try their hardest to suppress free ideas and suppress the people into submission, but even something as tiny as some teens getting to perform a rock song about question marks is yet another gap in the smoke and mirrors

4:34:33 It is possible that the audience loved the performance but have a culture of not outwardly expressing it too much, especially towards foreign media. However, it is also possible that, thanks to the previous decades of movies, potentially _most_ of them thought that the performance was "corrupt" and weren't very happy with the "corruption" of their society. Of course, they're not just robots of the state, but the society you were brought up in and are exposed to does affect you a lot as a person. We even see this in the west. So, I wouldn't think of people in other countries as all secretly holding American values but are scared of punishment. In essence, the show was similar to showing a load of hardcore American conservatives a pride parade performance.

Enjoying the video so far but I have to comment on something - "There's a reason you don't usually set kung fu films in modern war movies" - this line is absolute nonsense. The sheer amount of kung fu films where the entire point is to show Chinese kung fu prevailing against Japanese colonialism (and guns!), from classic genre-defying films all the way to modern ones. There's countless reasons -to- set kung fu films in modern wars, including just the fact that seeing an unarmed person beat up armed soldiers is cool as hell. You don't watch or make kung fu movies for the realism.

(Off-topic warning) While there is no doubt the US Navy beating IJN on the Pacific contributed to the defeat of Imperial Japan, the nukes are nothing more than revenge. At the time the nukes were dropped, Japan was already losing the war, had been retreating from their overseas colonies, and was preparing for a last stand at the homeland. The nukes killed far more civilians than justifiable since they were targeted at heavily populated areas instead of industrial or military targets. Some even argue it's a war crime, but just because it's from a superpower to the most hated Imperial Japan, people just kept their mouths shut on it. I know all these rants have little to do with this video, just stop spreading the propaganda that the nukes are justified or had anything to do with freeing Korean people which cannot be further from the truth. Before you sweep this comment away as some anti-American propaganda and write all kinds of hatred replies, use that energy to do some history research and see for yourself if the nukes are really intended as what you've been told.
when I was younger I met a girl online who claimed to be living in north Korea. looking back I have no idea how she would've been able to communicate with people outside the country, leading me to believe she was lying or I'm misremembering, but this video reminded me of what she told me. she told me that she lived in a community that had a lot of struggling families. she often saw a lot of hungry people who couldn't afford food, and when I asked about government aid she said they didn't receive any. I told her that sounded awful, and that whoever was in charge should help them more. she immediately backtracked and went on a five-ten minute tangent about how hard her country's "leader" was working to make the lives of citizens the best they could be, and how kind and amazing he was, after which she swiftly changed the subject. I remember being really confused as to how someone who clearly saw injustices could be so insistent in the justness of their leader. This video finally helped me fully realize the answer. looking back, she was probably worried about getting in trouble for even implying the government could be doing more. it breaks my heart to think about how scared she might've been in reality. whether or not that was really a girl from north korea, this video was really well done, eye opening, and nuanced in explaining the feelings that a lot of north Koreans probably share. keep up the good work!
