The Ogden Surgical-Medical Society (OSMS) is a CME (continuing medical education) community created by and for medical professionals. We provide a platform for empowering health-care professionals through education and collaboration. Our annual live conference is designed to keep the health clinician current through diverse, expert-led discussions and presentations, hands-on performance skill labs, and professional dialogue with colleagues, which improve overall competence and performance and enable improved patient care.

Founded in 1946 in Ogden, Utah, we are the longest-serving CME organization west of the Mississippi. Conference participants come from across the country and Canada. We offer accreditation to MDs and DOs. Other societies for Podiatrists, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and EMS Professionals may accept our accreditation as well. Our meeting is one of the first of its kind to meet the standards established by national medical accrediting bodies.

Please be aware of the VonArdenne protocol for oxygen contrast therapy, simulating high altitude and low altitude alternating contrast therapy, favorably comparable to, even surpassing hyperbaric. An excellent company now offers this equipment, with many seeing excellent results, even with chronic long term conditions. Please consider LiveO2's contrast therapy, which opens the capillary gating systems, allowing oxygen to finally have access to browned out, congested, inflamed areas, bringing great relief. Even TBI and neurological issues can be addressed with astounding results

Do some research and discover what wonderful natural medicines can be grown at home, in the form of God's herbal farmacy, and can have a excellent effect, combined with chemical free living and a natural diet. Please take responsibility for yourself, how you can take care of your own health, especially with prevention. Don't be caught in a bad place, start now. Many DO predict and foresee shortages of artificially created drugs. LEARN NOW, GO NATURAL. You may not have a choice later

This is a woo science. The way you refer to opiate users as addicts and idiots is disgusting. Its IBS and you discriminate against people on pain medication. But of course Im a delusional opiate fiend in your eyes which quite frankly are closed.

This unhealthy and misinformed person has done many years of damage. He fails to convey the essential truth that no combination of the incomplete proteins found in plants will ever equal or create the amino acid pattern found only in animal products. Kids raised on grains, legumes and oxalate, lectin,phytate laden vegetables are visibly stunted when compared to kids raised on raw dairy, pastured eggs, grass fed ruminants. How this guy finds an audience is a testament to the insidious nature of our abandonment of the nutritional sciences The species appropriate diet for humans is carnivore.

18:30 Absolutely brilliant. Thank you Dr. Taylor. Let me try and explain the cycle: The liver cells end up being too fatty. The liver exports some of this fat into the blood which at first gets stored as subcutaneous fat. Then the excess fat finds its way to the pancreas (triglyceride) which affects the beta cells that produce insulin. This will decrease the insulin response to food, which causes more glucose in the blood, which finds its way to the liver which causes more de novo lipogenesis, the turning of sugar into fat. Whalah: It's the fat, not the sugar that causes diabetes. Yet read all the comments below, which believe staying away from sugar is good and eating fat is good. One commenter even talking about having to get stints, but still loyal to his Low Carbohydrate diet.

His study is quite interesting, but nobody can stay on an 800 kcal diet for long. It also doesn’t address the diet that got the patient into trouble to begin with. Unless they get a sustainable, enjoyable maintenance diet, the intervention will be nothing but a blip on a long, road of failure. I think ketogenic diets have the best long, term track record now. Five years+ in the Virta Health Study. Diabetes remission sustained in about 64% and drug reduction in over 95%.

Thank you for this presentation, it has expanded my view on my own journey with weight loss and T2 Diabetes. I did a slightly different path, low carb diet with similar intermittent fasting. Diagnosed 2021 with T2, fortunately my doctor gave me a choice of weight loss or Metformin, and I chose Keto as my path. Lost more than 80 pounds over the next year, more rapidly at first, and am now at a "normal" weight. Did not have any need for portioning, as when I started eating whole foods and avoided grains and added sugars, my appetite immediately normalized. A1C of 4.7, and has been stable to date. In maintenance, I have been able to reintroduce a much less restricted diet, without weight regain and maintaining my T2 remission. I now don't worry as much about what I eat, but HOW I eat.

0ver 100 years ago, a ketogenic diet was the standard for treating diabetes (it was not called ketogenic but it was exactly the same when described in old books)....and it's still working today for reversing type 2 diabetes without starving yourself! I'm sad that Dr Taylor is not acknowledging it as ît is as, or even more, effective that his liquid diet...and I'll also add more pleasant!

Friends of ours eat mountains of meat every day, a great deal of it processed. Sausages, bacon, bratwurst, you name it. Because it's all organic they feel they are as healthy as can be. Unfortunately, they are consuming a tremendous amount of saturated fat, nitrates, nitrites and salt. One has died. Another is in poor health. A third, younger friend is just starting to show signs of ill health. They are confused by this situation, yet continue to eat as little fruits and vegetables as possible. Go figure.

Some interesting points but some of the comments made me go looking -- surprised but comment that ketogenic diets reduced life expendency. Dug up Dr. Greger's paper and its citation for that statement (Noto, Hiroshi, Atsushi Goto, Tetsuro Tsujimoto, and Mitsuhiko Noda. "Low-carbohydrate diets and all-cause mortality: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies." PloS one 8, no. 1 (2013): e55030.) is about low-carb. None of the studies included were ketogenic. While plant based may be effective (when glucose is controlled) When people make such misleading comments, I don't trust the rest of what they say.

But if low carb is that bad, it makes sense that keto is worse. Even less whole grains and legumes and even more meat and full fat dairy. Less fiber and phytonutrients, more saturated fats.
@UselessMinx
@UselessMinx Месяц назад
Why the same comment from two accounts? Correction copied: I dug up the paper, curious about your assertion about being misleading and must correct you. You are right that there is no express mention of the specific phrase 'ketogenic' BUT: a ketogenic diet is just the most common types of low-carb diet; the catergory of low-carb diet tends to cover <150g of carbs per day and keto is on the more extreme end of <50g per day; and the paper states it scores participants diets based on how extreme their carb reduction is and those with high scores would be considered on Keto. The findings are that all cause mortality got worse the more low-carb the participant's diets got, i.e, the ketogenic diets were the most harmful in the cohort. Therefore Dr. Greger's statements are entirely correct. He just didn't take the time to go into detail about how exactly they structured their study and the moderate low-carb diets being not quite as bad. That is a fair choice to make as a science communicator as it was the most interesting finding from the study. People get bored with the specifics of data analyses.

Your comment on hospitals leading the way hits home. Our hospital (HCA) had healthy meals prepared on site. In order to save money they brought in fast food. Very little now prepared on site by minimum wage workers who have no idea how to prepare food. My husband had esophageal cancer. They brought him a thick piece of meat for dinner, nothing else. Our health systems at work. Way to go NY
