Hello! I’m Tsukushi who is a Japanese pianist based in Manchester, UK. Currently I’m studying piano at the Royal Northern College of Music. I’m not only a solo performer but also a keen chamber music learner :) Visit my duo channels mentioned below and I will share duo recordings on this channel as well! Videos will be uploaded on every Friday! Hope you will enjoy listening♪
I generally like a Steinway sound if it’s a solo piano piece as it’s a more mellow rounded sound. The Yamaha is better for ensemble pieces where its brightness helps cut through in the mix.
Nice find and performance for the repertoire! The original song for voice and piano by Mikahil Glinka and adapted by Mily Balakirev was called "Не говори: любовь пройдет" which translates more accurately to "Say not that love will pass".
@Ivuy-Yawanifecbos15 Thank you for the information! It is gonna be useful as I haven’t been able to reach much information about this piece in English 😊
@@Tsukushipiano You're welcome. The song is in Wikipedia under "List of compositions...." of both Glinka and Balakirev. The text was written by Anton Delvig. In a similar style you might know Liszt's brilliant transcription of R.Schumann's Op 25 song "Widmung" - a pianistic tour de force. Regarding Balakirev, his famous "Islamey" is probably too much trouble for most pianists, but an interesting alternative is Sergey Liapunov's "Lezginka" which is no. 10 of his "12 Etudes d'Execution transcendante" (Op 11) modelled after Liszt. Your compatriot Chisato Kusunoki (who I believe still lives in the UK) made an excellent recording of it in 2007 on a CD issued by Tableaux.
Wow you have tremendous skill…I discovered this from your video comparing cfx to Steinway….try playing some popular movie themes if you want to increase your subscribers or maybe a Michael Jackson song, I say this because you have the talent for way more subs. I actually am interested in all things Piano playing including Steinway, Yamaha, classical music, and more……Piano players of your skill do need an audience…sometimes both the audience and the musicians are too, stubborn about what they are listen too and or performing. Everybody was interested in the piano but not the playing as I noticed from the numbers of views on the recital from may 2024. Keep up the great work.
Ok so first thing I noticed here is you are indeed a pianist. Second thing nice pianos; third thing I have abound as nice of headphones as you can get it is hard to tell from the video which is “better”. 4th thing is I clicked for great title…good idea for a video and great way to get subs. 5th yes I did sub. 6th thing have a nice day, Ysukushi, cool name. Oh yeah, I grew up playing a Yamaha Grand piano no cfx for sure. I going to say Yamaha I mean let’s hand it to the Japanese for making some great pianos….Steinway can’t win every time. Which one did you decide on? Edit :She went with Steinway Ha. In my opinion I would have decided based on preference of action for recital. Which I will now watch.
This was played with such great promise. This performance characterizes the musical emotional dynamic of what its like to fall into love! Very nice rendition. Lovely.
A better microphone - as in a $5,000 Neumann tube condenser microphone - could have made the comparison test more fair. But based on the current set-up, now I know why Tori Amos prefered to use a Bosendorfer.
Dear Tsukushi, SO BEAUTIFUL AS ALWAYS!!!!! Thank you for this Glinka/Balakirev piece and for an excellent performance👏👏👏👏👏🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉💖💖💖💖💖✨✨✨✨✨, congratulations for 755 subscribers to your lovely channel, you deserve more and more..., I've added this video to my old public playlists called "My Favourite Classical Music" and "Tsukushi Mitsuda", again my best wishes from VERY HOT Poland to England, have a nice weekend, Joanna.
It sounds like the Yamaha is closer to the mic. It also has a stronger percussive sound, and the tone is brighter and rough around the edges. The Steinway has a quieter and rounder tone. The Steinway is the better choice, especially for a recording, but I probably wouldn't enjoy playing it. I don't like pianos with heavy action on the keys. I personally like Kawaii grand pianos, which to me have a bright, round tone. My home church had two Kawaii grands when I was an adolescent, and one of my friends dad had one in their music room at home. Hope the recital went well. 🩷
The Yamaha sounds hard and glassy in the mid range. The Steinway sings and resonates more beautifully. But it's really is hard to know if this is really true because of the placement of the Steinway behind the Yamaha's lid and the less than ideal recording quality.
@Ivuy-Yawanifecbos15 Posture is the problem I’ve been facing for a long time and I’m in the progress of fixing it now. It is still not perfect yet but it is getting better.
@@TsukushipianoI like your playing and wish you well. You might like to take up Yoga or Qigong. I'm no fan of Yuja Wang but her posture is almost faultless and worth checking out. I would guess that she practices such methods. Have you considered tying your hair back? With the present camera angle your pleasant features are practically invisible and one sees mainly a mop. Imagine Sony or another record label is looking for promising young artists, that would improve your chances. All the best to you.
In some moments, I think I hear echoes of Rachmaninoff. Then Prokofiev. But I'm probably doing Medtner an injustice, because what I hear is Medtner with his very own musical language. And you are such a fantastic ambassador for his music! You are such a wonderful "storyteller" on the keys: these dynamic gradations, these phrasings... wonderful!
Dear Tsukushi, SO WONDERFUL AS ALWAYS!!!!! In the end, I just had to shout Bravo! 😄 Maybe someone was wondering: why is he suddenly shouting Bravo? But your performance was simply too good. This combination of powerful playing, this elegance, this wonderful sparkle in your playing. Once again: Bravo!!!

The Yamaha had a more consistent sound through all of its keys. The Steinway sounds like three different instruments in its base, middle, and upper sections. I like the middle range of the Steinway, but it is a bit more confusing than the Yamaha when the song includes the whole set of keys.
