Jeff is an Active Duty U.S. Marine and hobbyist beekeeper in Eastern North Carolina.
He got started in the spring of 2017 and has been obsessed ever since. Keeping bees is fascinating and a hobby he wished to have discovered years ago, having been stationed in some prime beekeeping states (FL, MS & CA).
Jenn does most of the behind-the-scenes work. One day she’ll get around to taking the county beekeeping club's "short course" and work on becoming state-certified.
We named our channel and social media pages after our young son, Cole. The goal is for him to join us along this journey once he is old enough.

I’ve been lucky that my bees haven’t been this bad this year, however, some seem to just been too busy absconding every inspection I did this June/ July. Yours are slightly nuts right now. Yeesh. How do you not freak out a little?
Hey, thanks for commenting. Yeah, some of the other beekeepers around me have had the same issues. How do I keep from freaking out? Oh, I was completely freaking out of my head. That was just a little too hot of hives for me.
Wow those bees got aggressive in the afternoon check. All you can do is walk away and hit them another day. The bees found some nectar somewhere to fill those supers. Goldenrod to come soon.
Hey, Cole. Your thumbnail is a tobacco plant in bloom, not soybean. I didn’t see any video of bees hitting those flowers. I have a ton of tobacco fields near me. Just curious if you saw bees working those flowers, or if you cut in the wrong plant clip. Awesome video, as always. Keep it up.

Good video, love the new equipment! I had one hive this year with a laying worker, combined with a strong hive and fixed the problem. Moved them back with lots of eggs and a new queen bought locally. Now strong as can be. Keep up the good work!
No, I don’t have a parts list. Honestly, you only need one PVC pipe and a few elbow joints. Basically what you see in the video is what I had to buy to make it.
I like your plan, are you going to add something to keep things from fermenting when not in use? Mosquitoes are stupid high numbers here in Iowa too. Fortunately no summer dearth here yet, considering how much rain we have gotten this year I really do not expect one. Good video, thanks for sharing.
Hi, thank you. The plan is working pretty well so far this year. Adding anything to keep it from fermenting? No not really. The bees drained the 2 1/2 gallon feeders in a week. Feel free usFeel free to share any of our contact with your friends orfamily.
Can you show the system actually mixing a half (or more... so 25 gal or more) batch of 2:1? Also what is your power source? I would really like to find a reliable pump for 2:1 that I can operate via battery/inverter. I do a lot of solar stuff and can get a battery/inverter to the field to provide 15+ amps. My setup (55gal drum, battery, inverter) would be on my truck. My hives are remote (off grid), but I can drive up next to them.

@NKYHoneyBees Good to know. What do you think you will do whenever you need to to preserve the finish? Have you considered having them wax dipped yourself?
My wax coated hives didn’t last a year in full sun. Most of the wax has worn off and I’m trying to figure out how to refinish. Thinking of torching them to burn off the remaining wax. Hope yours last longer than mine did!
@CincyReviews12 Thank you for your feedback. I tried to contact anyone I saw with HHs before we got ours and most/all said they are still going strong several years later. I guess it all depends on where they are placed too. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Please let me know what you end up doing so I can have that info too if I need to do the same.
It has been a crazy swarm season for us beekeepers in eastern NC. The honey flow should be great as well. Good job catching them and placing the comb in frames.
