Hey! I'm a music producer, songwriter and educator and on this channel, you can find my music, videos about guitar, gear and music production and the odd behind-the-scenes of music projects.
Great video, really clear thanks. I think it would be cool to make FS1 an undo button. Add another 2 button switch and use that for going up and down snapshots. Is that possible? Bass sound, rhythm gtr, solo gtr, ambient gtr for instance.
Bearing in mind, these are not expensive, there are some fairly simple MODs that make a significant difference to this amp. There is a diode limiter* which when clipped out increases the power / volume. If you do this, you can then add a better speaker (it's a budget one for the price) to the existing box OR if you are really bold as I am just now (I bought the amp used / hardly out of the box for £40) you can cut the whole thing down to a head unit and cab it** with a 12" Celestion Greenback 25W / 8 Ohm. At this point all you need is a Sweet Cream dynamic OD pedal £40 (reacts to your playing, can OD from the guitar with hum-buckers) and a half decent reverb pedal - I am using a Shimverb £30 - and you are into Peter Green Blues power at realistically low volumes on the clean channel. Try this on an AC30 or the cheaper Laney clone LC30/12 and it is way too loud. FYI the built in gain channel is this amps weak spot. At this point you have a practice stack which could easily record or gig small venues for not a lot of cash, and it is a fun project not beyond most people with basic DIY / Craft / Soldering skills. * Google this bit. It's there if you look. ** I bought a broken Fender Champ 110 circa 1996 for £25 and took out the amp box, replaced the existing 12" speaker, re Tolexed and replaced with VOX cloth :) - perfect size to sit under the Pathfinder for a lovely mini stack that remains portable.
Thanks for the comment and the recommendation! I have an JetCity ISO II which I’d like to try and run this amp through. I sense a new DIY project brewing! :)
Actually I think a far better method outside of using the real thing is using a regular six string steel acoustic guitar. You can record the part normally and then use a octave FX VST in you DAW to lower the pitch 1 octave (or use an octave pedal etc.). This produces more of an acoustic sound to the lowered octave than an electric guitar. I have tried both and always go back to the acoustic guitar. In the mix it sounds closer to a real acoustic bass than doing the same thing with an elect gtr.
For me the best setup was to use only 2 stomp instead of 3 for the looper: - 1 Stomp for Play/Stop command - 1 Stomp for full looper use (like if you setup a bypass stomp to you looper) Using this method you can use the play/stop to manage stoping resuming on time your loop You can use the tradiionnal unique looper switch to trigger the record, overdub, undo/redo and delete the loop. Also having 1 Full Looper stomp allows you to visualize the color code for the looper (green for play, orange for overdub, red for rec, and also a different color when a loop is stopped and empty VS stopped with a record) The main pain point for using a single switch looper is for this double tap to stop the loop. Having the Start/Stop in addition really fixing the issue. No need for a dedicated REC/OD and additionnal Undo switch. And here you go you saved 1 Stomp :)
This comment is so unnecessary and the commenter would've saved time by not watching and commenting on a video posted by the owner in his own youtube channel for his own followers. Thanks for playing.
BILLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have to try out PRESTON PEDALS The Deputy Plus V2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then you'll connect the ampere into the Deputy Plus V2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can we do away with unboxing? I could not give a single f*ck what the cardboard I'm gonna throw away looks like. 50% of this Amp review doesn't feature the amp.
Sorry to disappoint. This review may be more what you are looking for: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GX7s6N2PGwQ.htmlsi=II1MRPKuE8vzy4Eb
@@BillyCrabbeMusic I actually think the rest of your review was fantastic. I just think unboxing is not very appropriate in an amplifier review. High-end consumer electronics that put alot of effort into the presentation of their packaging, maybe. With anything else, it just feels like padding the video to hit the 10 minute mark for algorithmic purposes. Also, alot of musicians buy used gear so it's likely they will never interact with the original packaging.
Thanks for the tutorial - Very helpful. One question: I am missing the colored LEDs (stomp buttons) after customizing the Single Button Looper… is it possible to get them back? Mine are just white or clear now. Thanks!
Hey! How do you set up the input to be 1 on pro tools? I’ve been trying this with an Apollo twin but using output 3 and returning on output 1 seems impossible on hardware inserts 😱
In a way I have two pedals set up for controlling the looper. It depends on what you want to do with the looper - this set up is basic and probably would require a lot of rehearsal to make sure that you get it right in a live situation. In the last video I uploaded I go over a couple different variations that give you a bit more control.
@@BillyCrabbeMusic I figured out with a double footswitch I can do the loop on stage better. More precise. The HX Stmps buttons are NOT looper friendly at all, I mean physically. And then the software sucks too. Do you need quick double step on the button to stop ur loop? Anyways, I use a Rowin nano looper, the brown edition (the blue edition needs double stomp to stop the loop), and it is much much better than the HX Stomps puts on ur desk
You've just taught me a lesson about this amp, namely that it really has an 'overdrive' that reacts to the level of Gain. Now I suspect that most of the complaints about it are coming from people who are 'Diming' the Gain. The way they were talking, it sounded like a buzzsaw as soon as you pushed the button.
Hey everyone! Posted a video responding to some of these comments! Thank you to all of your for contributions! Responding to your comments | HX Stomp Looper - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LEJ3A_mfBIw.html
Great tutorial. I've always just used the looper the standard way but this looks much easier. With a more gainy amp like the jtm45 you could ride the volume knob and have clean and distorted tones as well as bass
@@Wobbz9413 ungrateful fucks. You think it's that easy to record and edit videos? This man is not a big youtuber. Nor hoping to be a big one too i think. Sometimes people are just passionate and would like to share their gears and knowledge.
I have this little amp and love it, the overdrive channel is bad but the clean is awesome. I have the one with the Union Jack on the speaker, nice added touch
Hey man I tried this today. Total noob here. Before this , I could switch presents by pressing the stomp buttons. Now that's gone. Not a big issue. I got the looper to work, but that third foot switch stays red and says tap tuner. I can only do it once with the second foot switch and then press it again for it to start playing.
Hey hey! Yeah, I had that issue when I was setting up. You need to go into your global settings and change the FS3 assignment. I can’t remember exactly how of the top of my head. I’ll have a look on my pedal tomorrow and get back to you.
YES! I love this pedal. Needed to figure out the looper for song writing. This was a perfect demo! 🙏 Appreciate your help. I hope you have affiliate links…… 😉💰
This is super helpful! Apologies if this question has been asked earlier in this comments thread or I missed it in the video, but is there a way to reset the looper when you go to a new song? Or do you just stop the old loop, then start a new one like you would by pressing the second footswtich then the third one?
Hey Dan! Glad you found it helpful! Yes to create a new loop, you would just stop the playback and then hit the record button again which will start a new loop.
Hi I tried to do this but I am seeing the preset up/down and the tap tuner for FS 1,2 and 3. When I look in the preset I see the FS settings in your video. Is there a global FS setting I missed?
Thank you again for the excellent guide, Billy! I followed the guide, and it worked really well. I only encountered one problem and wanted to inform everyone who is following the guide that if the pedal is in its default setting, where pedal 3 is tap/tuner, then the looper assignment of pedal 3 will not work. Even if you follow all the steps in the guide, pedal 3 will not change its function until you turn off the tap/tuner assignment. To turn off tap/tuner, go to Global Settings > Footswitches. Set it to "Stomp 3". Once the setting is saved, all three pedals will work as described in the guide.
I’m new to this. 2 years.. all the RU-vid videos produce such great sound! Is the sounds processed after the mic with the EQ in a DAW? Just such room filling sound.
I don’t believe I did any eq processing just so anyone watching could get a clear idea of what the amps sound like. The mic I used is a condenser mic and quite a bright sounding one.
