That chuck with the centre drill has been seriously abused. It must have been used by an absolute moron to get in that state. And what is that giant locknut on the other chuck, presumably to stop the thing slackening off????

Is it possible to cut tapered NPT threads to straight threads? I'm working with 2.5" NPT.

Yes. You can make it unless the diameter of your straight thread is smaller than the diame of straight thread
