I'm Terri and welcome to my channel! The Frugal Connection is my little corner of the web where I share plant-based whole food recipes, as well as tips on how to make your dollars stretch while working on your health. While I do make different types of recipes, most of the recipes I share here will be plant-based. I have lost 72 lbs. eating a plant-based, whole foods diet and do not use sugar, oil or processed foods.
I am a published author, speaker and my husband and I are in full-time ministry in a church in Western New York. Living on a small income for most of our married life has helped me learn how to make my dollars stretch. Often people say that eating a plant-based diet is expensive and I want to show how easy and affordable it can be.
Just found your channel. Really am in alignment with your ideals of wanting to spend your time living healthy and abundantly so you can be the person God wanted you to be. And be of service to Him. I have not lived my life in a healthy way at all. I was plant based for about five years with the occasional slip up. But when I retired in 2020 and returned home to Texas to be near family I first let one thing slip, then another, and after about 6 months being home, family dinners and comments. Plus an old addiction ( know that sounds weird) to bbq and smoked meats, I was back on the standard American diet. Weight has ballooned up to around 200 lbs on my five foot one frame. I was an avid walker and long distance hiker. And because of the weather extremes where I moved to, and lack of much when it comes to hiking trails more than a stroll I. The park, I became lazy. So, now after some prayer and tears, I am walking twice a day, up and down a very steep hill nearby. Going early in the morning and evening after it cools down a bit. Gradually using up the food I have and replacing everything up with healthier choices and plant based no. Processed proteins. On my very tight budget I simply cannot waste food. So I figure I have about another month till the white pasta, rice, and any remaining animal products are gone. Thankfully I never really got into the habit of baking so not a lot of stash there to worry about. I have stopped buying grazing foods other than some sliced veggies and salsa I like to keep on hand. But the main thing I stocked up on are all the knorr sides. I will end up taking those to food bank. I am still drinking a lot of coffee. My doctor has me on some protein drinks once a day (. I have a malabsorption disorder and don’t absorb proteins of any type well. , plant or animal ). So I found a good Whole Foods plant based protein powder , vanilla flavor which I sweeten with a few drops of stevia. It’s a little grainy. But if I blend it in my mini blender the grit disappears and it goes well in my coffee and tea. I have replaced my hot teas with good herbal teas. And plan once my current tea is gone trying some of the brewable herbal coffee replacements out there. I still have lots to do to get back where I was. But I am already starting to notice a difference and notice my clothes starting to loosen up a bit. ❤
You have one of the great mixers of that brand. The reason I say that is because presently, most of the metal parts within the mixers body have been replaced with plastics, and a lesser quality motor. It has affected the quality and durability in f the present day mixers so much, that kitchen aid even tells you in the manual with the machines to never knead bread dough or mix heavy batters longer than two minutes. And since a lot of people got them either to mix heavy cookie doughs or knead bread it has caused issues. A friend of mine has had the motors burn out on three or four of them in a row all within 3 months after getting them. One would burn out. She would return to kitchen aid who would send her a new one under warranty. This happened several times until she finally demanded her money back. At first kitchen aid refused. Because the actual warranty is to get a new mixer. She has a you tube channel with 100 thousand subscribers. And partner you tube channels that do cook along and collaborations with her. So huge online presence with Facebook groups. So she made a video about her experience and posted it. And sent a link to kitchen aid. In about a month she got her money back. No letter or anything. Just a check. This is not the kitchen aid company we all remember.
. . . my heart aches for you feeling that you have to cook dead decaying flesh with all it's highly inflammatory props & it's antibiotics & steroids, etc...I pray you get a chance to see Dr Brooke Goldner's many very good tips & advice on how your Precious Son can be gently & lovingly swayed to totally leave the meat so that many innocent lives will be saved, in addition to his own health becoming so much improved...also, maybe he will be convinced to watch The Game Changers... Hi! All of your recipes are delicious and so creative. Thank you for sharing. I can't find this recipe from your link or how to search on your site. Could you help me please? Thanks again
This particular recipe is not on my website because it's in my new cookbook, Simple & Nutritious: 52 Plant-Based Whole Food Recipes. Many of the recipes I have created on this channel can be found on my website under the blog. However, because this one is in my book I haven't listed it there.
@@frugalconnection thank you so much. My medical bills are really high right now. As soon as I can swing it I'll purchase. Thanks again for your videos!
This looks like a wonderful recipe. We’ll be trying it this week as we also enjoy all the fall flavors as you mentioned. I love your channel. Thank you. Linda
Thank you! Definitely will give these a try. I agree with you, God does have a plan. I can’t extend my life, just want to be healthy! I struggle with diabetes so switched to eating this way for that very reason. I have also cut out salt to lower blood pressure. God Bless!
Thanks for sharing, chickpeas are always great to incorporate in sweet things as they are neutral tasting and nutritional so good for us. Have liked and shared. Have a great day 😊
Praising God with you concerning the weather at your daughter’s wedding. Now you’re aware of how important plant-based eating is, it’s all good. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent advice! I believe your daughter's wedding is TODAY! I hope everything went well. You mentioned hiking in Alleghany ... I live in Rochester, so depending on where in Alleghany, we don't live that far from one another. I am currently baking my first batch of your chocolate cookies with the garbanzo beans and dates. 🤩 Love your shirt btw!
Thanks Deb! Yes, her wedding was yesterday and was absolutely perfect in so many ways. I'm exhausted though! lol We are about 2 1/2 hours from Rochester in Jamestown so not far at all!
Hi Terry Just wanted to let you know. I’m enjoying your RU-vid videos. I also purchased your cookbook. I have been on this journey for 8 months. Love the food loss 40 pounds feeling so good. I agree with you it’s not expensive to eat this way. Please keep doing your wonderful recipes. And Thanks so much for sharing your recipes and journey. God Bless Jeannie
I made a huge bow of something very similar, last week. It keeps well, is very high in fiber and low cal. I used lemon juice, a little olive oil , Tabasco, salt and pepper. It's great to see you doing this! I love it! You look great!!!!
Wife here. Thanks for recipe. Congrats on your weight loss. I also went down this path four years ago for health reasons and weight fell off nice bonus! Keep recipes coming. Wonder if I exclude banana would it still taste good not a big banana fan. What is the taste of the brownies? I mean do you taste banana and sweet potato? Thinking of giving them a go.
There is a slight banana taste, but mostly they are chocolatey like a regular brownie. I think you could swap out the banana for 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce. You need something to give it the correct texture and the applesauce wouldn't give you the banana taste.
Your Zucchini boats make my mouth water; look so scrumptious! Thank you!! Yeah I’m one of those that has heard not to let foil touch food while baking. Too many acids especially in tomatoes react with the aluminum making the foods unhealthy to eat …from what I’ve read. 🌱🕊💚
Hello, Terri! I just made these cookies tonight and they were delicious. Instead of using peanut butter, I substituted peanut powder and used the aquafaba from the chickpeas to mix the peanut powder to a peanut butter consistency. They were great! Thank you for this recipe.
@@frugalconnection PB 2 original has 2g of sugar and 1g of added sugar. I found the Great Value brand of powdered peanut butter from Wal Mart only has 1 g of sugar and 0 added sugars.
Thank you, I really appreciated your words of advise. I am just starting out learning to eat a plant based whole food diet and your words really helped!
A friend of mine gave me 2 big Zucchini yesterday...so now I have a good idea how to cook it. Thank you for your healthy and delicious recepies! Greetings and best wishes from Germany ❤🌞🙋
