My family was on that road a few times over 60 years ago. Just south of Max was the evacuation destination for MAFB dependents if the Cuban Missile Crisis got hot. The government maintained the housing built for the workers who built the Garrison dam. They were on the lake and could be used by MAFB families for outings. I have fond memories- the fish were biting.
