Buying international food, Halifax is more expensive comparing to Toronto. I think for restaurant choices, there are a lot more on the lower end. Of course, more on the higher end as well. I am curious where you get your data
I'm glad you posted the video but the house inside was kinda of disappointing. I've seen it when driving by and wondered about the interior, but, well, not impressed. A good interior designer could probably make some big improvements but until then, still a let down.
I love how the homeless are mentioned as the only real problem with respect to safety. What an irresponsible thing to say. The homeless don't bother anyone, and if you're going to mention them at all, it should be as a "con" for the fact that the City doesn't do what they need to help the homeless find housing, jobs, stability, and dignity, all things every person is entitled to have.
almost my neighborhood,I'm just on the other side of Dunbrack in birdland[older development]...its a great location and decent neighbourhood, for all the reasons stated.its best to have a car but it's close or close enough to about everything..home values have risen sharply in recent years because of it and its an area very much in demand,i'd be embarrassed to say what we paid for our place 10-12 years ago.. but i'm glad we bought when we did as we couldn't afford to buy in now
Rent of course is up due to crazy increase in property taxes and high mortgage rates. Rents are 40% lower than cost to own so that should be the focus.
I have followed social media of communities up to 1-1.25 hrs east of Halifax. Many, if not all have water shortages. I have read hundreds upon hundreds of posts of wells going dry. This must allow for reduced property value? I realize that you aren't a plumber or a well driller, but, do you inform your clients of this fact? I am sure you are well aware of this. That being said, you appear to have integrity and are forth coming with the realities of life where you are involved with Nova Scotia real-estate. I would like to hear what your opinions are about the lack of water and the costs and realities surrounding this fact.
Honestly I haven't come across that problem through any of my clients yet. My range is within an hour or so of Halifax but in certain cases I will go farther. When we purchase on a well during conditions we will have a company come out with tools that allow them to test for flow rate and perspective on the area we are buying in. My go to contacts are with Total Water Investigations and if there is red flags raised during testing then we approach them accordingly, this may involve looking in another area or finding a property that is on city services.
Bahah love how you mentioned going to the rez to get smokes cheaper 😂😂 it’s absolutely wild Nova Scotia barely has anything to offer and everything is so expensive 🫠
Halifax sucks!! I've been here 8 years and I regret buying a home. You literally will have no medical care if you move here. My boss and my neighbor have breast cancer and they do not have a doctor. They're health is managed by a nurse!! To get a doctor you have to be on a 5-10 year wait list, I am still on a wait list. When you go to a walk-in clinic you have to wait outside before they open and the line is at least 50-75 people. When they open they hand out numbers. If you're at the back end of the line you will not get in. All the nurses and doctors leave the province because they get paid more everywhere else. All the good people are leaving and we're left with refugees on gov hand outs, new immigrants who create their own communities, international students scamming the system and LOTS of drugs and violent offenders. The news and real estate agents hide these facts to sell you properly. If you plan to move, go outside the country as Canada is the most expensive country in the world.
It does not go far enough, it needs the building of at least 20 storied buildings, to bring down prices u need to work on the law of supply and demand.
These are all fine and dandy, did the developer's consider low income rentals to combat homelessness, some how I doubt it , what happened to the city planning for ppl. On the lower income scale , it's disturbing to see all this being built only for the well off folks to line the pockets of the city and developers.
does anyone see the problem with halifax being on par or above price wise vs toronto or montreal? Like, Halifax is not even in the same league as those cities... yet we pay like we are... it's insane.
Lived here my whole life and never even considered leaving until about 2 years ago when this shit started to hit the fan. All of a sudden I can’t wait to get out. No idea where I’ll go as it seems that all of the provinces are pretty much the same shit, but my opinion on the place took a total dive. I no longer enjoy even walking down the street in Halifax, it’s not safe anymore. People are rude and disrespectful, the likes of which I’ve never seen. And the city’s sudden hostility towards the common man is blatantly apparent everywhere from the brand new high rises popping up to the $7 small coffees. It’s unliveable for a simple person like myself and, as others said, offers none of the opportunities of bigger cities but you pay the same price. Breaks my heart honestly
Queens marque restaurants can be more expensive than similar quality food in Paris. For the same price, you get much better quality food elsewhere. Cocktails after tips and taxes are more expensive compare to a lot of expensive cities in the world. There are less choices for cheap food comparing to big cities. More taxes and high tips. It is really expensive living in Halifax considering average income
I’m an immigrant planning to move to the city sometime in the near future. Doesn’t sound like any of these projects are going to be affordable for me and people similar to me 😅
right? 1800 for a one bedroom ON PRIMROSE... i used to live in the south end of halifax, and a one bedroom in south point was 625 a month. it was quiet. it was safe. it was affordable. now it's none of those things. i'll never vote liberal again.
Thought Toronto was crazy expensive (which it is), but Halifax wtf?? Toronto is Canada's largest and most diverse city which offers everything Canada has to offer. Why is tiny Halifax in the corner of nowhere that expensive??
Exactly, there is no reason reason why a "Have-Not" province such as Nova Scotia (Halifax) should be comparable to a city such as Toronto. This clearly demonstrates that the system is broken and things need to come back to reality. Hence, why my partner and I who are professionals are leaving despite being from here.
