Fingerstyle guitarist rooted in the British folk-baroque tradition, a mix of own and others arrangements. Dark classical, folk horror, some theme music, and whatever contemporary stuff takes my fancy. Aiming to post a new video at least once a month. Hello yes, I find that I have just added a comment to the other fellow's lesson which I didn't even look at. Never mind. Anyway it's all good and helpful, and despite being semi-old, and generally buggered up, I am making progress with this piece. Can you do Anji? No rush obviously as I shall still be learning Classical Gas round about Christmas, but something to think about. Thank you. I am not Lizzy Haughton, but her father and it's another mystery to me why she is on my computer but there we are. Now back to the twanging.
@@MikeFowlerguitars Well I'm still struggling with those last bars, but I shall prevail, with this and with my very excellent guitar teacher whois Barbara, and writes beautiful songs that you can hear on her albums. Also, I have lots of books about all sorts of things if you wanted to widen your reading a bit. I can play Greensleeves a bit, so that's something. Anyway thank you. I think you maybe live in Cumbria or somewhere up that way.
Lo those many decades ago, had I had this good man as my guitar teacher, I might have been somebody. Funny how life works. Mr. Fowler exudes a Zen master-like calm and steadiness, and no trace of ego.

I remember when I recorded it trying to get the timing right. Had to keep listening to the Davy Graham version, I think some of the timing was peculiar from the beginning. Have you recorded your version?
Thanks for this. I've learned the fingering but this gives me the feel.Beautifully played. Clannad recorded this on there first album in english. The producer I believe insisted they had to have at least one song on the album in english not Gaelic. Here it is. I also saw a youtube clip of Judy Garland from a movie in the thirties sing the song. Strange rhythm. Enough.
Thank *you* Thomas for your interesting comment there. I remember playing this 15 years ago, and a gentleman there knew the Judy Garland version, not knowing it was an Irish air first. I didn't know about the Garland version at all. I also didn't know Clannad had recorded it, I've been listening to them a lot recently as I'm rewatching Robin of Sherwood. I'm going to try and find their version now. Always learning, and that is good. That's why we're here I suppose. This arrangement is by Duck Baker. All the very best to you.

There's only a few bars that might be a problem, I find them a problem still. You just have to take it real slow and get the rhythm right. Make sure you use the same fingers on the right hand each time. I'm not going to tell you which ones to use, that's up to you, but when you settle on right fingers that enable you to play comfortably, use the same ones each time. Classical guitarists call them i m and a. Copy the notation out and write them in. All the best to you

@fastidioussloth6013 Yes I thought that as well, about the recent Clive Carroll set. I don't know why, he must have considered it. If I remember, I'll ask him next time I see him. That book is fantastic. I very much recommend getting to grips with it. I've been reviewing some of my old sheet music files recently, and I note that I converted all the medieval pieces into tablature back in the early 90s, when I borrowed a copy of the book. I never got round to learning those medieval ones, Trotto, Saltarello etc. I also managed to find a copy (though they are now quite rare) about 12 years ago, before the price went daft, and got John to sign it for me. You can see the signed copy in a video I did for the Alman duet. If you type John Renbourn Alman into the search bar you'll find it. That's another one that Clive didn't include, which I thought they might, given that it's a lovely little piece and would have suited him and Daz on the tour.
