Heard this on classic fm a minute ago. Recognised the piece from Willy wonka the original soundtrack in the 70s so I shazam the song and it brings me here. Amazing piece of art.
I recently read that those two short phrases towards the end following the singer's last note, are the opening phrase from Schubert's "Ave Maria." Schumann included this because the "Ave Maria" was Clara's favorite of the Schubert songs.
i played this in my WA orchestra years ago and they've been my favourite pieces I've ever played in my life. I have since forgotten the name and really wanted to listen to this again, but I stumbled upon this video that I've coincidentally watched before. Thank you Arts Laureate and the youtube algorithm.
Locked in, well done! This piece really requires the player to "put the griff in Doppelgriff" throughout, really is the antithesis of the "just make it look easy"/sprezzatura school of thought, the sweat and effort is part of the expressive point
This was wonderfully performed. Such a joy listening to a solid wind ensemble! Seemed like the group was almost always in balance with a healthy low brass. The French horn part at the end of the piece never gets old! 👌🏾❤️
I still don't know how a person could create such a beautiful masterpiece like this. Same question to all composers and musicians during that era. Like how possible??
