Many concerts get recorded and put on youtube, do the FOH Engineers do the recording mix aswell or is the Broadcast mixer in hand for that? Because many recordings from band shows sound awfull in recordings or on broadcast.
Back in the days they can just play off 9 person on a stage, now with all these, what does it actually do? Helps? How does it affect and sounds different without? Sorry just came across this vid as a SK fan and I knows nth about music instruments/tech XD
Maybe if you really know aa digital console it is great for live sound, but when you stand in front of a different digital mixer every night and soundcheck time is short and you need that extra schooling from the house tech for things like "where are the graphic eqs for the monitors?", things like that, it is such an unnecessary burden....i'm old too obviously and my brain is not winning any 100m dashes but still....my analogue console, my sweet outboard rack and that is all i need. Worked for so many great bands and some bigger bands still bring their own analogue FOH rig, they know why!
Typically the bands that are on early will be mixed by the 'house' engineer or by their own engineer using the house console. Headliners will bring their own engineer, console, racks etc. During the day there usually isn't enough time or space at festival to be setting up a load of racks for a band that isn't headlining. Really depends on the band though and what they bring!
In the case of headliner bands, yes, they have their own engineer and a complete setup. If it's not a headliner act, they usually use the default FOH mixer with some additional personal racks, but they also have their own engineer.
I was at that show. The only thing I can say that wasn’t perfect was the kick, it was a little too loud/subby. Kinda took over the PA at times. I was standing just a couple of meters in front of the two FOH tents, right in the middle of the stage. But the vocals were on point!!!!

What venue? The acoustics of the venue & materials used to build the walls and mezzanine etc, can very highly affect the live mix. One night could have walls and ceilings with far more dense materials as well as insulation where the mix will be far meatier; and the next night venue could have far more ‘room’ and natural reverb and bounce back goin on due to either larger venue, or like I said before, but with far less dense and less insulated walling. Also, the venue/arena often has their in house high rise speaker snakes to hit their higher level seats, as well as a backline of subs. Depends on the tour etc, slipknot may happen to bring 100% of their oh PA + mounting setup, or they may use partial.
It looks like some features are removed by making it dual mono compared to the stereo version? Like for Attack the dual mono only has 3 options instead of 4 on the stereo version. Same with the sidechain. Now I can't decide which to get. I was willing to pay more to have dual mono but if it's less versatile, might get the stereo version with more options.
Been trying to purchase one of these for more than a year.. no one ever has them in stock. I guess Gainaudio labs can’t supply many. I guess I need to find another alternative
