Mr. Humphries is my hero. While he could be discreet on the job, he could also revel in who he was. John Inman always said Mr. Humphries was just a sheltered boy. He was discreet about LGBTQ+ issues and I appreciate that. No reason to except him to be a warrior. Just give us some sugar to make the medicine go down easy, as Mary Poppins said.
I love you, John Inman. My Dad had real hatred for gay men, for whatever reason...my Mom said maybe his own masculinity he might have had doubts about....but even my Dad thought Mr.Humphries was hilarious....his One exception
The writers have said that he is not gay, only a mummy's boy, which really surprised me because anyone watching would assume/understand that he is. Either way he will always be my favourite AYBS character ❤
I love "Are You Being Served" & watch it every chance I get. John Inman was a hoot & irreplaceable. He & Mrs. Slocombe were my favorites & still make me laugh. True quality TV!!
One of the best things I’ve been told about Mr Humphris, is that the actor who played Mr Lucas was actually a homosexual. He never found Mr Humphries offensive but hilarious. They remained good friends till Mr Lucas died. I believe it was from cancer
This was yet another brilliant British show that was so wrong in its day for lots of reasons but absolutely brilliantly hilarious , ive got every episode
How is it that once television made shows that were worth watching, at that time there were just 3 TV stations. Now there's hundreds and nothing worth watching.
He truly was GAY*!! ;) I mean that in the sweetest loving funniest way everything he embodied!!! <3 * a happy carefree sort was called 'gay' back in the day.... :) <3
Oh dear, when I was a child I loved Mr Humphries and Mrs. Bucket. I connected with them. Little did I know they were signs of my self that I was oblivious to for far too long. I also enjoyed Richard Simmons, if that gives any more context lol.
