The oil cooler and highway pegs are add-ons. Really a nice bike, a classic. I had a '76 FXE, red. . . $2900 new. Electronic ignition would be a good thing to use, easy to install. . . I could actually use my left arm to kick start (arm start) the engine.
I Had a 1977 super glide FX not a electric start, only kick start. AMF bike Wow I was young then and strong only pussies had electric starts bought the bike in 1979 with 700 miles for $ 3000 that was a ton of money then ! Great bike always had oil drip for chain oil, but owned for many years no problems A 1200 cc 74 cubic inch shovel head, at 65 miles per hour not much punch after that ! I now have a 2010 Dyna Wide glide 96 cubic inch has plenty of punch love it.
I owned a 1973 super glide bought it new in Portsmouth Virginia while I was in the military. That was when AMF owned Harley Davidson. The first thing I purchased after buying the bike was a service manual. The bikes were a piece of crap.
@@lostsoul31541.) Location of rear brake master cylinder near exhaust caused fluid expansion which caused the rear disk brake to lock up. Dealership fixed the brake issue. 2.) Piston wrist pin lock ring not installed from factory, which scored rear cylinder. Dealership bored out the jugs provided new pistons, and parts, but wouldn't do the labor, which I did. 3.) Problems with the third gear shifting fork bending. Dealer fixed once, but that was a continuing problem which I worked on a couple of times over the years. I'm not an aggressive shifter. Sold the bike in 1985. Wish I had kept it now as a collector bike.
@@firebearva The factory left off the primary cover gasket and the dealer put one in, warranty covered it. I too had problems with the rear caliper freezing up, forgot how I dealt with it though. There was a puck that you bought to put inside the piston opening, not sure if that corrected the problem though.
Close to original ...............no stripe on front fender like this one has and a rear license plate alarm was standard. The air cleaner insert is aftermarket. About another 5 or 9K miles the front valve will burn and it'll need a valve job...............other than that, nice bike.
I have a 74 Shovelhead and it has both kick and electric. Been sitting for 4 years due to legal issues. Going to sell. Johnrockinw@gmail.com New S&S, clutch, may others. Been garaged until a few months ago.
nice bike, I also have a 1974 super glide with 19500 miles on it in great condition. my was given to me by my father who bought it new in 1974 in Detroit. It sat in storage for 20 years before I took it over.
