Wow. I have never seen anyone sing this as fast as Beth Howland. But this was Beth speed and I clearly understood every word. I am certain Sondheim would love this performance of perhaps his hardest song to sing. I know there are several others that are hard as well but this one does not even let you breathe.
Thank you SO much. It was a bucket list goal of mine for Sondheim to see me in any of his shows...sadly that will not come to be now. But this is probably the next best thing.
She's good at this. ^____^ (Ashley Wool as Amy) One of the best I've seen. ☺️ Marvelous. Stunning. Awesome. Splendid. Fantastic. Cool. 😎 Good job. ^___^
Great song pick and youve got a great voice!!Do you know where you were able to get the piano accompaniment sheet music from? Ive been looking for this for awhile.
Excellent! I am such an admirer of musical theater. I've taken singing lessons, so I remember some of the technique, the section at 2:37 must have not been easy as far as breath control and body support. Everyone did awesome!
Absolutely great except for the last verse when Amy and Paul are singing together. Paul needs to tone it down, sing back stage . . . this is ALL about what Amy has to say as the lyrics are just too good to be sung-over. The director should have picked up on this. Otherwise, grand job.
thank you so much. It really is so underrated. And even though we've come a long way in our understanding of the illness and epidemic that it's based on, and combatting the prejudice that evolved from it...it's all become eerily relevant again in COVID times :(
This... is... so... amazing! I've stumbled upon this video 3 days ago and probably played it at least 300 times... I can't express how much I love it! Just... wow! :)
I was browsing through "Who sang it better" series and found the title of this song. Then I searched for other performances on youtube. After a couple of videos I found this one... and couldn't stop listening! Next to the voice, pitch and even mimics (which are amazing) the thing that got to me the most is the enunciation of the lyrics: English is my second language, but I could understand everything in the first try. Being able to sing clear lyrics at this speed while acting is nothing less than admirable!
Well thanks! I also have to give a special shout-out to our sound designer Adam Guttmann for that. Without his careful ear balancing my patter, the orchestra, a backup choir, and Chris and Cindy's legato gorgeousness, we could have done everything perfectly and you'd still have heard a jumbled mess. Sound designers are heroes.
I’m obsessed with this song ever since I heard Randy Rainbow’s parody of it about the election. I’ve listened to every version of it I can find and this one is wonderful!
Very well played, Ashley. A great score, for sure. The interwoven structure of this number is an apt reminder that Mr. Sondheim, apart from being in a league of his own as a composer, also is a lover of puzzles. Think of Quintet from West Side Story, God, That's Good from Sweeney Todd, etc etc
