Hi fellow Drummists and assorted percussionists!
This channel will be over time adding loads of vintage drum and percussion comparisons and other equipment that I have accumulated over the years...as well as some newer drum equip too.
As time allows...new vids will be published!
The esoteric and unusual are emphasized on this channel. From old K's..to new custom drums. Outside of the mainstream is the theme here. Keep tabs on us..much more to see..is coming soon...
Enjoy!

Good idea if you have a 1920s vintage trap/drum kit where sticks aren't used and an even better idea for teachers so their students have the temptation of using sticks if they were to learn that early style of jazz

Is there any connection between Camco and DW? Because those lugs look exactly like DW lugs... Maybe they bought the design?

Something about a classic round badge Gretsch kit..especially in blue sparkle finish. The die-cast hoops, internal mufflers, just everything about them made them the quality instruments that so many musicians used. Nice brush playing.

Kudos to u & yours that has a space to practice yer drums. Drums aside from electric guitars if played in a hectic pace can keep up with the loudest garbage disposal truck driving through Queen's in mid August , if practiced in an environment where neighbor(s) frown down on that pulsating rhythm that also's in step with with the human heart. It's very frustrating living in tight quarters where stoggy neighbors hold the upper hand when it comes to even basic rudiments without folks banging on walls & making threats as to reporting or complaining to the corperate manager to have u shot down in flames & thrown into the cold elements of the streets . There once was storage units where I could escape & practice till the cows came home, complete with electricity fer only around $65.00 bucks a month. Those daze r gone with the wind cause of the increase of energy costs meaning lights out ! Here in the one horse town of Desert Hot Springs, Ca. Practice pads & compterized drums fill only a small void. They r a cop out compared to the formula of a real drum set. I figure the only way out is to find a wealthy understanding gal with a nice secluded house away from all the sheep and rock on ! Easier said then done I'm afraid. Nothing more sad then to sit & gloat at my nice set of '66 G.K Slingerland's being substituted as a place to hang yer clothes. I'm having an open mind something will come my way let me be free of this wall of musical stagnation. A shit load of songs I can be learning or grooving with only my head to follow along with. Because some old crank who never had a life should make me feel as useless as herself. I pray she moves & let the new occupants be a little hipper or younger like it was not too long ago. The FORMER tenants couldn't give a rats ass if I practiced. Never a peep from them & I wasn't even that refined then listening to old tapes. It wasn't till I started getting into the groove with really good tunes that shit hit the fan with the NEW tenant who I describe her only to the likings of 'Aunt Esther' from the 'Sanford & Son' t.v. show. Drums & apts. don't jive when there is a stubborn virus present. I hope I am speaking for a lot drummers who don't have that portal priviledge of having a decent space to move forward with their craft. I had to share this with u. If u have any ideas don't hesitate to share them if u have gotten free from practice freeze 🚫.NO DRUMMING ALLOWED🚫 P.S. Nice resonent sounding set of Gretsch drums.

Yeah..every drummers nightmare. Hey ...when I was in NYC Charlie Persip told me Elvin got complaints too. I found as I got older there are ways around this..play keyboards instead w/headphones to keep in stroke musically..and keep the fingers limber.. ...use brushes or fiber instead of sticks..and/or a smaller kit..or... buy a house. There are sound proof rooms too but expensive. Be well! Cheers, TS

Thank you SO MUCH for making a wonderful video, and sharing about me on your channel! 🙏🙇‍♂️☺️ I love the mysterious, floating overtones and the pleasing bell sound. I will try to create the sound with my Turkish bronze! P.S. I was wrong about my guess on the era! 🙇‍♂️ The stamp indicates 1953-56, type IIIb. 👍

By original design, the low boy was never intended to be hit with a stick and it was played with the right foot. The kick drum was played with the left foot. Great helpful video by the way. When my drummer got his first set of Rotos back in 1973, and we got his drum kit all setup, the hihat just wouldnt fit in anywhere properly. So we took a hacksaw and converted it into a Low Boy. If you play hard rock or metal, this pedal is really a Blessing. And the cymbals it comes with are ok, because you dont want to put your best cymbals down there by the ground. You only play the low boy pedal when you arent doing Double Bass. And the purpose of the low boy is to accent the snare hits. Not having hi-hat cymbals to bang on also changes your playing style. Ask Keith Moon. I personally wish they sold the pedal without the LP cymbals, but your basically getting them for free. And in a hard rock or metal setting thet work just fine. One complaint is that buried down there by the floor, you really cant hear them. Which is all to the good, and why the stock cymbals work. Buried down there your not going to really hear the high hat by itsself. But if your using the low boy to accent the snare, you can really hear the difference. Compared tono hi-hat at all. The next complaint was no tension adjustment, which does kind of suck. And the pedal is stiff, but on the plus side is, the harder you hit it with your foot, the louder it is going to be. Which is necessary, and actually part of the design as nuances are subtle and going to be lost. Nobody mics thier kits anymore, its all triggers, so this is just for an acoustic kit in a smallish setting. For my band this pedal is a God send.

When used as designed, the stock cymbals work fine. Though not the greatest. Bring your good cymbals up on a boom mount. But it depends on your playing style. This Low Boy is great for hard rock and metal. As compared to a regular hi-hat stand and quick release clutch.
