I’m having a very hard time at work. I have cognitive issues because of my cancer. I do a great job but forget details. Things are much, much better. The worst is over. I’ve learned to gracefully deal with looking stupid and being known for being very smart at the same time.
For any learners wondering: This is typically in the context of someone avoiding an uncomfortable topic or confrontation. Also, that second example might be rewritten as "I know this discussion is an uncomfortable one. But instead of beating around the bush, let's get (or cut) to the point and get it over with." Or maybe "...lets cut to the chase and get it over with." "Cut to the chase" is another common idiomatic phrase, meaning to get straight to the point without... beating around the bush!
I can't just travel at the drop of a hat. I have to coordinate my time off with my coworkers. 💛 at the drop of a hat The central assortment is NG.
